Just installed a 6in lift on 2018 trd 4x4. There is a grinding sound, sounds similar to brakes pads grinding, metal on metal. Brake pads a roters are in good condition. Any advice? I've never lifted a truck, I've always preferred the dropped look, so this is all new to me.

What components were used to lift it?

A bit more description would be helpful

What conditions does this sound occur under?

I bought a set of tires and rims I liked, and had to go with the lift

It was an RC 6in suspension lift. I'm really not sure. I took it to a customs shop, and followed their advice on what to purchase. The sound grinds when I press the brakes, but there is no damage to my pads or roters. I just had the lift installed last week.

I've done some research, and suggestions could be ECGS bearing, drive shaft grinding on carrier bearing. I was just seeing if someone else encountered a similar problem, and had a suggestion before throwing money around to chase down the problem on guesses

Take it back to the custom installer.

If it didn't grind before it shouldn't grind after.

    Just some stuff...
When your carrier bearing starts to fail or fails you usually start feeling a vibration from below not a grinding. Maybe somebody has, but I’ve had two different gen trucks that have needed a carrier bearing replaced and it definitely wasn’t a grinding that I felt. Really sounds like you need to take it back to the installers to let them know what’s going on.

What wheels (size)? Thought I read at one time, min wheel diameter 18" on some 6" lifts. Also did you accidentally bend rotor backing plate?

Not sure how that could be brake related. But the common test is to put it in 4wd and see if the noise ends.

Also not sure how that could be brake related. Seems like that would be more all the time it's moving related.

Again, the shop that installed it should be who happily sorts it for you.

Are the brake pads in the correct way?

Are there brake pads in the calipers?
I would take it back right away. They probably forgot to install something correctly or tighten a bolt somewhere.

Might just be a bent brake dust shield barely touching the rotor . Probably have been bent during lift install

Why would that grind with brake application? Since the shield is fixed, if it was touching, seems like it would be noisy all the time.

His OP doesn't say when brake application. Says it sounds like brake grinding. Does not specify, if all the time, or apon brake application. He isn't clear on this.

Grinding should be easy to find. Look for something that's shiny and shouldn't be. Failing that, look for something that has a groove and shouldn't.

And take it back, today. Grinding is not a noise to wait and see if the internet masses can win the game of "guess the source."

As weird as that may sound, I've dealt with that one before lol

Absolutely smoked my rotors when someone threw them on like this
