I have the Viair 85P. Does anyone know if the cigarette lighter plug is replaceable?

It should be. You should be able to buy a generic replacement plug online or in an auto parts store. Look inside the original factory plug. If it has a fuse inside, be sure the new plug accepts a fuse as well.

Does any plug work as long as the fuse are the same? Most concerns is the size. I had a odd ball plug before. Worked in my friend's car but not mine.

Make sure the new plug works in your female socket before wiring it to the compressor

Be careful the plug is rated for the load of your compressor.

There are some very poor quality plugs on the market.

This is why I started this thread. My friend had issues with aftermarket plug fitment. He had to wiggle the plug to get it working.

My compressor draws a lot power. I just don't want any issues. Manufacturer doesn't sell just the plug.

If it was me I would run direct off the battery with the proper circuit protection.

Just how much current does your compressor draw? After all your lighter fuse is only 15 amps.

Simple to find a male and female plug and make what will work the best for your application.

I've had good luck with "Blue Sea" marine plugs (and sockets) - seem to be well made and fused. I believe the internal fuse is a 10 amp.

That said - the best arrangement would probably be to use the clamps that go right on the battery terminals (under the hood). The low voltage compressors often pull a lot of amps - and it also can take more than a few minutes to raise tire pressures all around after off-roading. You might be better off to NOT run this current through the dash wiring.

According to Amazon it draws 15 Amp. The car has to be running or it will kill the battery.

Can I attach battery clamps to the positive and negative wire coming out of the compressor?

Can I use something like this?

Do you swap the compressor between vehicles ??

You can but I think something more permanent would be a battery option .

I use it for all vehicles. I keep it with me all the time.

If I install new power cord I have to make sure it can reach from front to rear.

You have a tiny air hose or is the air chuck mounted direct to the compressor ??

So you hold the compressor on the valve stem to inflate your tires .

I have the screw on valve stem chuck. The air hose is roughly 1 1/2 ft.

    Here some pics.

Not sure if these pics will help.

I would like to save this one. I maybe used this one around a dozen of time.

The cigarette plug broke due to the cold. Just broke on my hand from pushing it in the car cigarette lighter housing. Cheap plastic doesn't like the cold.

    Update

I called the manufacturer. They told me where I can get a replacement plug.
