The GX is the Prado, not the 4runner... The 4runner is a NA only product. Toyota came very close to dropping the Sequoia, quoting Mike Sweers, so if they decided to renew it with the sales it has why would they not renew the 4runner with its sales numbers?

They are not in the same category as the 4runner, you somehow think the 7,945 people that bought a 4 runner in January are going to choose one of two glorified station wagons if the 4 runner was not available?

Now what they may have done is buy a Bronco or a Wrangler or a Land Rover and leave Toyota out of that choice of category all together therefore losing sales to another competitor.

Its not exactly a NA only product, As of 2021, the 4Runner is sold in the Bahamas, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, Peru, the United States and Venezuela.

More of a North/South America flair to it

They should have dropped the Sequoia, its sales numbers were horrid, I would have preferred that they dropped it and offered a few of the lower trim Land Cruisers, but...if they had dropped the Sequoia, they would cede what little sales they had in the full size BOF category to Ford/Chevy etc. And I am sure it was important for them to hold fast in that category instead of trying to resurrects it later.

Last month Highlander sales were close to double that of 4R. 4R isn't the sales leader it once was, Toyota has slowed the production of 4R globally. Toyota sells the Hilux Surf same as a 4R in other regions of the globe. They also have the Fortuner which I think has a 3rd row. Manufacturers are focused on 3rd row SUVs, Grand Highlander and Grand Cherokee will have a 3rd row. I can't see a 4Runner having a 3rd row, somebody's get kicked out the house or voted of the island.

LOL! The current 4Runner has a third row seating option.

You need to stop polluting these threads with your uninformed nonsense. Just stop.

It doesn't matter, how much you or I or the people that purchase 4Runners like the 4Runner. It's been on the chopping block for years. Despite robusts truck and SUV sales, I think the 4x4 truck market, especially SUV is about to fall out.

It has a 3rd row now in some trims, why couldn't it have one in the next Gen?

I still have no idea why you compare highlanders with 4 runners, the only thing they have in common is that they have SUV in their naming somewhere.

Does it really? I guess never shopped for one with a 3rd row. I hate 3rd row seating unless it's something like a minivan.

Yeah, you are probably right, those manufactures that are starting to only offer their trucks in 4x4 are completely misreading the market...lol

I'm not comparing the Highlander to 4Runner they are different vehicles. Highlander outsells the 4Runner.

You have to wonder why Toyota would sell a Highlander, the Grand Highlander, 4Runner and Sequioa at the same time. I don't think Toyota would drop the regular Highlander, and you would choose the GH for the 3rd row. If the TNGA-F midsize SUV grows in size it doesn't make sense to sell that next to the Sequioa when Toyota can charge more money for the Sequioa. Toyota is cannibalizing the 4Runner from both ends.

I wouldn't be surprised if BMW brought back the Isetta as an EV only.

I don't think trucks are going anywhere, but with exception of fullsize BOF SUV all other SUV are going to be unibody.

This thread has really gone into the dumpster.

Can we get back to a factual discussion about the next generation Tacoma?

I don't wonder at all, they are designed for 3 totally different buyers...You see...Toyota likes to have 3 totally different types of buyers come onto its lot and have something to offer for each type of buyer....

They are not canibalizing anything...thats just like saying Tundra canabalizes Tacoma and vise versa so you might as well drop one. A full size body on frame buyer is not looking at a highlander or 4 runner...a mid size body on frame buyer is not looking at a highlander or sequoia, and a mini van suv buyer might glance at the other two but quickly realize that the highlander is better for them.

The highlander is for the minivan buyer that doesn't want a mini van.

I give the Bronco 5 more years tops, doubt if it will see a redesign before it's cut.

The only BOF vehicle Jeep has is the Wrangler. I don't think it's going away, but IFS and maybe even a unibody design in with in the next generation or so.

I expect both vehicles sales to dramatically fall off with in the next two years.

Land Rover? They don't sell that many vehicles, those will probably remain BOF, but I expect their sales to drop from what they are today.

Edit: I think everything LR builds today is unibody.

I can't prove a negative but do you have any proof of a 6th gen 4Runner in the works?

I've given plenty of evidence to support my opinion why I believe the 4Runner won't see a 6th generation.

Not sure how an Isetta made its way into the 4th gen Taco thread but I like it.
