Might be slop from adding oil. If not dealer will surely help you.

Oil on a hot engine can = :bananadead:

Tell them when you drive it you can smell something burning, that’ll get their attention. They’re dumb shts for letting you drive around a brand new truck with an oil leak.

Unless it hits the exhaust manifold… had a engine fire due to that once.

And then it’s time to sue Toyota and the dealer and just drive range rovers for the rest of your life.

I appreciate the feedback. I’d prefer not violating the warranty, but would also like to avoid engine fires lol. This obviously shouldn’t be a situation for a new vehicle…but here I am.

I’ll do some oil level investigation and keep a record. I’ll need to re-reference the manual to warm it up properly and keep my sampling process consistent.

Much more consistent to check it cold, level ground. As in the morning, assuming you let it sit after midnight.

This is because it allows the oil to all return to the pan.

'Warming up properly' is a transmission thing.

My bet is your level is fine and won't change, because the mess is from a sloppy worker.

Its easy to over-react when one is a new vehicle owner. You are, as well as many others that unfortunately frequent this site, over-reacting. I do understand the frustration and fear, I've been there too, but you will eventually look back on this and shake your head at how you let this get under your skin and harsh your mellow.

As others have noted, clean off the oil with brake cleaner or degreaser, and monitor the oil level. FYI, when you take it in, if the oil hasn't been cleaned off yet, the dealer will likely just clean it off and put dye in the oil, then tell you to come back 1000 miles later.

from the photos it certainly looks as if someone spilled oil rather than a leak. accidents including spilling oil happens, but not cleaning it up tells me this person is an imbecile.

i'd be equally concerned the person that did this was the one that checked the oil and decided it needed more. was this person also responsible for checking the other fluids?

if indeed it is a spill and not a leak, they already demonstrated they have poor judgement. i'd either check the other fluids myself or, ask the dealer to assign another person to check them.

imo what is unacceptable is the dealer telling you they can't take care of it for two weeks, and not giving you a loaner.

    keep us posted.

Give it a shot pf brake clean, and wait and see. I think it's like someone else said, messy topping off of oil.

Engine fires?? Don't drive it?? I mean don't drive it if the leak rate is too fast (which it doesn't sound like it is) but NOT because of potential engine fires. Good lord.

Unlikely. I'd wager it's a dealer prep team slob.

I mean even if they didn't do it, they should have cleaned it

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
Is it the dealership that you bought the truck at..?

If so, politely go talk to the general sales manager and ask they he go bitchslap the service department to find time on the schedule to get your truck taken care of.

it’s unacceptable that a brand new vehicle is having issues.

if it’s a different dealership than you bought your truck at, ask to speak to the service manager and be polite. Chances are, he or she isn’t aware that they have a brand new truck with an unacceptable issue.

One last bit of advice, tread carefully and diplomatically with your dealer if you dont have any other alternatives where you live (there is only one dealer in my town). Word gets around, and if you get a rep for being a hypocondriac jerk, everyone at the dealership will blow you off. They have to deal with a lot of bonafide idiot jerkballs on a daily basis. Try to stay off that list. Yeah, you can escalate with corporate, but that might end up being a phyrric victory. This site will turn you into a maniac if you let it.

I would find a new dealership, all dealership allow you to drive straight up to the service without an appointment. Unless you live in a crazy city that is still on covid lockdown.

    Post dealership service appointment update:

My truck was diagnosed with an oil leak from the camshaft oil control solenoid o-ring.

I’ve been monitoring the oil levels and haven’t been able to notice a difference, so the leak is small.
