Never underestimate just what will go in the back of the daily van.

This really is the most versatile vehicle I have ever had.

RE: Yesterday's stereo conversation, Sansui SP-1500 from about 1968.

These are at the garage, I have an identical pair at home we use for the TV.

I found the home pair on the side of the road.

    KIMG2944.jpg

Both pairs have these pretty fretwork grills.

This is my favorite piece of gear, another road side find.

    KIMG2946.jpg

Nikko 8085, 45 watts per channel. It powers some big (cheap) speakers out in the garage.

And these sweet little Acoustic Research jobs in my work room.

    KIMG2945.jpg

BTW: I realize that among "real" audiophiles all of my stuff is just mid-fi junk - all of it is old, none of it cost much and I enjoy it so that is what counts to me.

That’s a nice speaker setup, love the dual mids and tweeters.

Holy cow! $299-575 a set on eBay right now! The $299 set has a broken grill cover

They aren't regarded as the last word in hi fidelity in the audio world however they are reliable. Quite "bright" sounding so vocals can have quite a bit of pop, work very well with the TV.
The surrounds are made of treated cloth, they don't rot away like the foam surrounds that came along in the 1970's.

As these were designed in the vacuum tube era they are very efficient, for years I drove the pair at home with a very early 70's Sony receiver only rated at 15 watts, it would cleanly play to uncomfortable levels.

They never sell for that kind of money though... :pout:

BTW: They are classed as a "bookshelf" speaker - it better be a pretty good shelf as they weigh in just under 50 pounds each.:benchpress:

Somewhere in the archives I have an even bigger pair of Sansui speakers, I actually paid a decent dollar for them (not much, I'm cheap). SP-2000, SP-3000??

Some folks feel the Japanese speakers of the 60's - 70's were more about bling than performance - after all if 2 or 3 speakers are good then 5 or 6 must be better right?

I haven't seen them for a while so I forget the model, they look similar to the below photo.

    s-l1600.jpg

Toward the end of the 70's things really got out of hand with that "more is better logic".

    itb24x0dcdvqhcj7ftp2.jpg

    Really out of hand...

How appropriate, we got a new one!

I have 3 shovels, 200 pounds of salt and a spreader in there too, plus my heavy winter coat & boots and last month a 2 cylinder Wisconsin came home back there.

It is a work rig, I put 1/4" thick rubber mat from TSC on the floor.

4x8 sheets of drywall slide right in (when empty), 10 foot lumber or pipe will go between the seats.
Bagged trash, demolition debris, yard care stuff, furniture, appliances, cans of kerosene, deep cycle batteries, a wood stove, mower decks, on and on - the old van has moved it all.

    Sooo? What blower is that?

Looks very similar to my Honda 628? I can't remember the #. All I know is it's a track driven hydrostatic with a 13hp.

Probably should give it a run. Ran it dry 4 years ago and it's sat since with no gas in it. I'm kind of curious if it's gonna start up with a fresh dose of fuel.

I've been kidding Mrs KO for years that I could rock a van.

It's usually crickets or enjoy your new wife...

Belongs to a friend, he lives next door to one of the downtown properties and keeps the walk clear.

    1) grease was dry on the speed selector hex shaft so it would hardly shift
    2) the clutch cable was so tight it was in gear all the time
    3) the carburetor bowl was full of water
    4) the plug was black (apparently you should open the choke occasionally)
    5) both tires flat
    6) the oil might have been original...

He is a good fellow but doesn't quite have a handle on maintenance you might say.

MTD, 24" with a 10HP engine, I have one identical (but not rusty), it will throw good snow a long way with that 10 hp engine.

Mrs Green and I are both past "style" vehicle selections for the most part.
My truck is the most ostentatious thing I have ever owned or even driven

The van was just another vehicle of opportunity, it was cheap ($1200) and in better shape than what I was driving. I wasn't prepared to like it as much as I do.

It is easy to drive, quiet and reasonable on fuel (about 20 mpg), parts are cheap and so is insurance, it attracts no attention. It will do probably 75% of what a truck will do and probably 90% of what most of us use our trucks for.
