please help!! Recently had belt tensioner and serpentine belt replaced and some other suspension work. Day after I got it back from the shop and turned it on in the morning I heard it make a sound similar to this. The truck only makes this sound on a cold start, turning on repeatedly does not replicate this sound

I’d bring it back to the shop and have them fix it

Take it back to who did the work. It's likely in need of adjustment

Sounds like you need some old spice bud. All trolling aside, either the belt needs conditioning (deodorant works well in a pinch) or the pulleys are too tight on your idler or tensioner.

The cold will cause the belt to contract as it’s rubber, and it gets hard, hard rubber on smooth metal doesn’t work so well.

    That video is deceptive.
Does the noise happen when cranking?
Or before cranking when you turn the key on?

Thanks for the replies! Not necessarily a “cold start” but the sound only occurs when starting the truck after it has sat for several hours. Im in south florida so ambient temps range 70-85 depending on the day. The noise is only occurring when you turn the key and it begins to cycle. The noise only happens on the first start after a long period of being parked. 10-20 minutes no sound. 2 hours+ the sound comes back. In the video the sound almost seems to be in sync with the crankshaft turning. I am going back to the shop so they can fix the issue. Just looking for 2nd and 3rd opinions from the very knowledgeable people on here.

Taking the belt off is a good idea.
If the noise is still there, it’s probably not anything related to what the shop did.

But if he had them change the belt, it might not be something he can R&R for diagnosis.

    Valid point.
I would like to think he just told them to change the belt when they were doing the suspension work.
The belt isn’t hard to change, not on the 4.0.

How hard is it to replace the tensioner?

The entire unit is a bit of work iirc. Just the pulley/bearings isnt too bad, though the threads are backwards to get the bolt out
