Engine light came on and truck went into limp mode. disconnected battery and reconnected. engine light went off but immediately came back on. my mechanic checked the code and said air pump valve wouldn't shut. cleared the code and all was fine for a few days. check engine light popped back up this morning but was driving fine. my mechanic suggested an air pump bypass kit. any thoughts?

2012 had an issue with the air pump, apparently there was a design change for the 2013. Maybe check with Toyota and see if yours is eligible for an upgrade. Just a thought. If not I would go for the bypass as long as you don't have emissions testing. Air pump is not cheap.

Known issue. Search google and this forum. Key words SAIS, air pump, P2440 through P2443

Lots of threads about it including the Hewitt Tech bypass kit and Toyota Special Service Campaign 20TC01

Maybe look at the uni filter mod. I don't know much about it but the symptoms you describe sound like what that fixes

Nope, the uni mod is more preventative. Its not not a cure for anything once codes pop up

You would still be inside the 12 year window for the extended warranty. Take it in.

You’re probably right. I thought it was 12 years in Canada.

OP I would just get an engine tune that deletes the SAIS software. That way you can get some other benefits too beyond just the SAIS.

This!! Don’t waste your money on the bypass kit when a tune will solve your issue and do so much more.
