I’ll give a shout out to mine, West Herr Toyota in Rochester (Greece), NY. They did give me the sales spiels when I bought the truck, but for service, they have done only what I asked.

Buy BTD6. You won't regret it. And then lemme know and we'll save the world one Bloon at a time.

I literally don't even have time for video games anymore, but I play Bloons nearly every day for a few minutes to this day.

I almost bought it the other day when I saw it on sale. I just haven't played BTD5 in months. I definitely got my $1.99 outta it though, lol. Best TD series out there.

I write in sharpie on my filters to remind me when I replaced them because I have several vehicles and I sometimes don’t drive certain ones for weeks.

I have literally had a service representative walk up to me with a dirty air filter and tell me that it needs to be replaced and I’m like “motherfucker, that is not even the correct type air filter for my truck and I write in sharpie on it with the date I put it in so there’s no fucking way this is from my vehicle,” and then he kind of starts acting like “oh, I had you confused with someone else.”

The wiper thing is annoying, I’ve had the dealer tell me my wipers need replacing when I had literally just swapped them out.

Back when I lived in Colorado, I asked the dealer to rotate my tires, and I even told them that I have silver sharpie markings on the tires to remind me how to put them on because I swap summer and winter tires, and the assholes still didn’t do it and just played dumb when I confronted them about it.

Ahhh the old door 2 door sales pitch.

They'll give you the I see you need what we were selling pich.

We are in the neighborhood doing work.

    I think to myself liar!

You weren't actively doing any exterior work with in the last ten minutes, I just drove through the entire neighbor on my way home. I would have seen you.

Politely say no thank you to what they're selling, smile tell them, have a nice day.

    They keep talking.

I say, do you want to see my dick? Judging by the look on your face, you do understand the definition of the word no?

    Have a nice day.

On the flip side, I once took my 3G 4runner in for full service, which of course they tout as including a courtesy 50 pt check. To include lighting functions.

Before going in, I knew my pax reverse and pax brake lights were not working.

When I got my courtesy check paperwork back, each bullet point was manually checked as green/ok (even the light bulbs section). Go figure.

I change my own oil, as life's too short to go through the aggravation of going to a dealership unless it 100% necessary.
Neither my 1996 Tacoma with 415,000 trouble-free miles or my 2018 TRD Sport with 36,000 trouble-free miles have ever been back to a dealership since I drove off when new.

80$ is a good deal. I charge 100$ minimum no matter the vehicle.

In regards to OP, what are you expecting when you buy a reliable vehicle? There's nothing else to sell except wiper blades and filters. The Prius owners get it even worse than us. I'm not saying shady sales tactics are OK, but it's adorable the way guys act all surprised when it happens to them..

LED interior, license plate, and fog lights. More to come.
Those free checks are the biggest bunch of BS going. The tech gets nothing for doing them because they get paid based off customer labor charges. They put little effort in and I feel like I can't blame them. If the dealer really wanted a thorough job they'd "internal" a half hour to the tech.

That being said, if a customer wants a quality multi-point inspection, consider paying for it instead of going to the shops where they offer it for free

The point is, you're never going to find an "honest" mechanic by calling around looking for cheap or free

That’s the advisors job, listen to your concern and try to up sell services. It’s just like any other maintenance field. Have you ever called an hvac tech. or plumber to your home?

I was a dealership service manager for almost 16 years and my service menu was always based off the manufacturer's schedules. We did have some services we recommended based on patterns or trends of failures. We always did a quick check over, EVERY car had the oil level checked and washer solvent topped off.... even if it wasn't in for an oil change.
THEN a big dealer group bought us out and we had quota's, 20% penetration on alignments, 30% on fluid flushes.
I left six years ago, opened a shop with a good friend and we're doing so well we have two locations now. The dealerships are pissing off so many people we can barely handle the volume increase in the past three years.

Moral of the story is, do it yourself.

make more opportunities not talk to people and diy stuff is 100% fact you know what’s being done.

I’m no introvert, but selective with my encounters with people, especially places that try to sell me things…… except bars, and restaurants……. Gentlemen’s clubs. Whatever
