    Yeah.
Not to mention that quantum computing will make all current encryption algorithms obsolete, and we don't have an answer for that -- yet. That's probably 20, maybe 30 years off, though.

So they break the master password of one individuals account, thus gaining access to all of that individuals stored passwords. Given that the LastPass database holds thousands and thousands of user accounts, the likelihood of them breaching any given account, such as mine, is still extremely slim. Am I understanding this correctly?

Yes...and no. That all depends on what OTHER information they have. They most likely won't target you directly; it's all about the lowest hanging fruit.

    - Have they infiltrated your bank?
    - Have they infiltrated your credit card company?
    - Has your personal information been stolen, and how much detail was taken?

They take these details and database the shit out of them. Then...what's easy? If you get a potential victim's personal details and they align with a financial institution you've compromised, the difficulty factor drops significantly.

For example, let's use this example I ran into recently. Lodge brother and elderly gentleman who is (thankfully) cyber-savvy. Separate passwords, moderately strong. Had his personal information stolen from his doctor's office, along with credit card details. He reports a lost/stolen card, and changes his banking passwords. A couple of months later, multiple credit cards are opened in his name and charges run up. He's able to report those as fraud but not be liable for them, but he's now had to lock his credit on the big 3 (Experian, TransUnion, Equifax) and initiated added security on his credit cards and debit. He's now getting phone calls weekly with various scams; wife in a wreck, grandson kidnapped in Mexico, outstanding warrant for missing jury duty, IRS debt - and those are just the ones recently. He gets weird emails for all kinds of things as well. It's CONSTANT. He's beyond annoyed and pissed. He's also changing passwords regularly because he has lost all trust in the digital world.

All LastPass users are at the threat of this. It's not their fault - it's LastPass' fault. I predict a class-action lawsuit will be pending over all of this pain that will occur, causing the company to go bankrupt (or at least have to sell themselves to someone else).

There is nothing good on the horizon from this, and my cybersecurity heart goes out to everyone at increased risk because of just fucking lazy DevSecOps practices. Sue the fuckers to death.

Oh, the first thing that will happen once they do break someone's master password is to start logging in to the banks and credit cards and cleaning them out.

A lot of people doubt they are worth targeting as a single, poor person. And that's despite every single one of those people getting multiple "extended warranty" scam calls. Yes, they would prefer Jeff Bezos' info, but your's will work for them until they get his.

How do they make a watertight neck collar that doesn't constrict swallowing?

I would guess like a kayaking dry suit. Uncomfortable but doable.
