Advice on Coolant change

    If you want to completely flush the coolant system you must open the block drains.

    When I recently drained & flushed my coolant system (4.0L 1GR-FE,) out of the total amt drained from the system more than 60% of the used coolant came out of the block drains. Only 40% from the radiator petcock valve.

    When I did my first coolant change at 100K, I first drained pass side. When I opened the driver side, hardly any coolant drained, less than a quart, I’m guessing. Same thing at 150K. At 200K I didn’t bother with driver side. That side is hard to access anyways with the tire on; so, no more driver side draining for me. I will continue to always do a flush cycle with distilled water to help flush out sediment.

    If the coolant is really clean don’t waste your time draining the block. Do a drain and refill every 30k (super conservative) or every 60k and you’ll be fine.
