I have a recently acquired '08 2.7 2x4 auto with about 190k. The day I bought it the engine light came on giving the p0016, p0335 codes. I also have a chattering, rattling noise anytime I'm driving and the rpms are in the 1500-1800 range. It's also noticeable for about 1-2 seconds at ignition. The noise doesn't happen when in park and revving the engine. The noise and the engine lights may be unrelated, but I thought I'd mention. Here's what I've tried so far: cam sensor, vvt valve, crank sensor. Every time I put a new part on I clear the codes and they always come back on. Sometimes it takes a couple miles. This last time it took 45 miles and 11 warm ups before it came back on. The truck seems to be running fine. No stuttering or loss of power. Any ideas? I've been doing this work myself so far, but I'm kinda at a dead end now.

I’d pull the valve cover off and inspect the timing chain, tensioner and guides.
