I'll try to keep this short.Am in my 70's.2011 Tacoma TRD with manual transmission.85,000 miles.2nd owner.I thought about buying a late model used Tacoma with a manual or new but it didn't make sense.I've put $3K into it since 10/22:all fluids changed, new shocks, new driver-side seat cover (factory),other basic maintenance. What problems can I expect with the 4.0?Problems with the drivelines,suspension,transmission,brakes,4x system, etc?Other problems I might expect & head off?Any suggestions super appreciated. It's a Great truck...my 9th Toyota pickup since Fall 1972.It's my 2nd favorite after the 1988,my 1st 4x with manual & the classic 4 cylinder.Purchased 8/8/88 at 8 pm.
ps.Been buying my parts from Tom at Olathe. They seem to have a good back stock.

Welcome to TW, we have a great family here.
    Possibly change trans fluid @100K
The 4.0’s are a beast and will run almost forever with good maintenance
Very low miles that is awesome
My 2011 has 136,000. And I thought that was low. Lol. Any pics of truck??

You don’t have much to worry about.
The 2011 is a good year.

I’d change the transmission fluid every 60k. Drop the pan and do the filter at 100k.

You can expect to do front wheel bearings between 100-150k.

Keep an eye on the rear differential breather. It’s a good idea to replace it every 5 years. I didn’t, and it cost me a rear axle seal.

Also keep an eye on the vent hose for the 4WD actuators. If they crack, you might end up with water intrusion and bad actuators.

Absolutely engage the 4WD system at least every couple months. Especially if you have the OR model with locking differential.

This might seem overwhelming, but you said “forever”.

BTW, congrats on buying a Tacoma.
    You bought a good truck.

I would agree with TN on every 60K for trans

@TnShooter he said it's a manual so no pan or filter.
I'd still change the fluids in the diffs, transfer case and trans every 60k or so.
Really the only issue with the 4.0 is the timing cover likes to start leaking behind the power steering pump which can be expensive to fix properly.
Occasionaly the oil control valves get stick and you will get timing codes but that's an easy fix.
Keep up with maintenance and you shouldn't have any major issues.
If your in the rust belt keep the frame coated with a rust inhibitor.

The fact your truck is stock means it’ll last forever. The 4.0 engines are bulletproof!!!

I had a 2010 and I had expected to keep it forever, it dies or I die, then some lady rear ended me and totalled it. But if it wasn’t for that, there really isn’t much to maintain. Sounds like you’ve stayed on top of maintenance so you should be good.

Just keep it stock and don’t beat on it like some people do on this site, and it’ll outlive you easily.

    I missed that part.
I busy try to explain to people that worrying about a tree during a storm, is the wrong time to worry about the tree. I’m not going out there in a storm to cut it down:thumbsup:

    Too late now…..

I would wager to say that the fix might not be worth it? Have you ever seen it leak real bad? I had a seep there, like almost everyone else. Never showed on the dip stick between oil changes and never hit the ground. I “fixed” it by removing the PS pump, cleaning the area, and applying permatex from the outside. I know it’ll eventually come back, but that was almost three years ago. The “proper” repair is expensive or a real miserable chore without pulling the motor, and too much can go wrong. Risk vs reward. And it still doesn’t fix the actual cause, which is a casting defect.

I have the 2.7L with the 5 speed manual and I do my transmission fluid every several years or 15k because I don't drive much. For some reason I thought the manual said every 30k. Anyhow, I'm much like OP thinking of keeping the truck a long time and want to make sure I do everything I can to keep it in great shape.

I’d be more worried about frame rust than the drive train going kaput

Great point. Fortunately, I'm in TN so no harsh winters and had my frame replaced in 2021!

I have seen a couple where it was dripping pretty good but I don't see many Tacomas where I work.
