Hey everyone I have a third gen tacoma, I currently have upgraded tweeters and the kicker speaker upgrade all around, I have two skar vd-10 D4 subs and a custom box. I was thinking of running a JL JD400/4 as the amp for the setup. With this I was also wondering if I can also wire my kicker rear speakers to the amp as well to boost the power running to them as the stock setup mostly powers the tweeters and front speakers. If you have any suggestions LMK

just to clarify, you want to wire 4 channel amp to power the front mids, front tweeters, rear speakers, and subwoofers?

Just the rear speakers and subs I didn’t think the front would need more power as the stock unit sends most to the front already ? I’m not as educated in audio so if you have any input I’d appreciate it

honestly, i don't think you'll see much advantage to powering just the rear speakers off the amp. it's possible, but i don't believe you'll get much benefit out of it.

gotcha so then the best solution is to run two amps or will one amp thats rated high enough will suffice?

You want to run the door speakers off the 400/4, it's not a question of what the head unit can push, you put the audio to the amp, tune the amp and everything will be driven better and cleaner than having some strange mishmash based on feelings. The sub can be run off a second amp, or you can get a 5 or 6 channel amp and run it all off that. It depends on how your subs are wired.

The point of an amp is not just to boost power, it's to provide a launch point for the audio fed into it to make the speakers move more air - bigger engine needs less throttle to get to the speed limit. It's a single point with better tuning opportunity.

It's the difference between getting a boxter that you refer to as "your Porsche" and investing in an GT3 RS.

^+1. can do a mono amp +your existing 4 channel. benefit is that there's more options out there. disadvantage is mounting space and extra cost for wiring.

a 5 channel amp will offer the power you need. benefit is less required space. disadvantage is that your current amp would be shelved.
