Good news, now I don’t feel compelled to replace the TRD muffler with the Borla

@hungoverland on IG, King 2.5" EXT Travel w/ Archive Garage shock relocation, Icon RXT leafpack, 285 Nitto M/T's, bronze Raceline Defender wheels, TJM front/rear bumpers, TJM Sliders, Prinsu Cabrac, Katzkin leather, RSI Smartcap EVO topper, OV Tuned, MESO everything, Spyder headlights and tail lights, center mounted infant restraining system (CMIRS) \m/
I did this with a TRD (Borla) muffler and wouldn't recommend only because the turn down is so close to cab/bed gap that has the rear cabin vents-- resulting in the cabin noise being too loud. From the outside, it sounds great-- not too loud but aggressive. To combat the noise inside, I layered sound deadener on all surfaces including doors, added a second layer of weather stripping to the doors, and last but not least (and probably most effective) -- a pool noodle stuffed in the gap between cab and bed.

I did this to try and have my cake and eat it too... ultimately wish I just ran the exhaust the factory length :frusty:

Also... I could just be getting to the point where I feel the pros of cool exhaust are outweighed by the cons.

If someone wanted to swap mufflers with me for their factory one, I would do it if they picked up the tab at the muffler shop (Long Beach CA area).

All LED lighting, K&N filter w/TRD air accelerator, black and tangerine Katzkin leather seats, JL audio Components, rubber floor liners, de-badged, (next mod: orange powered coated winter rims & JL stealthbox)
It was terrible. Got it removed and then got a 20 magnaflow, Hated it. I finally bit the bullet and did the full TRD exhaust upgrade from the dealership. Was about 800 install after discount. I love it. It looks great (new tip/piping) and sounds great!

Like previous post, I followed what some advised and installed the Borla 40665 on my 18’ TRD OR and couldn’t be happier. Cost 115 from Summit Racing and 70 for install. The fit was perfect, welded right in with no extra piping needed. I thought that it had been installed backwards, but per Borla’s website it’s reversible. Couldn’t be happier with the outcome. I’d say it’s only about 10-15% louder than stock, and has a really nice tone-especially at 1-2k rpm I think. No drone whatsoever at highway speeds, and certainly never offensive.

@GoldenTaco27 Do you still have that TRD muffler? I have a stock one I'm willing to trade. Located in OC
