Both the flaps and any boards are non-factory accessories, and so could conflict. These are also regional distributor boards, so yeah.

You found it. Mine is 9-1/2" so apparently they shifted them forward an inch on some of these. Thank you for helping me solve this mystery.

Every Tacoma in Canada comes with mud flaps, I assume they are factory because of this?

The truck leaves the factory without flaps. When it gets to Canada they throw a bag of them into the truck. When it gets to the dealer, the tech installs them during PDI.

Yes, I see when they come in they don’t have a few things on them. They also don’t have the wheel centre caps, I just assumed these pieces added to every Tacoma were produced by Toyota.

The OEM mud guards certainly are. I purchased my mud gaurds from a Toyota dealer, they came in Toyota boxes and they have a Toyota part number. If Jeff Lange argues that they are not, then I'll argue that non of the parts on our Tacoma's are made by Toyota. :p Having said that, I've come to accept that the "W drop" running boards that we're discussing in this thread are not OEM. Having said that, I really like them better than any others. They are Aluminum, light weight and a nice compromise between the Predator steps and the OEM running boards.

The center caps get thrown in the truck at the factory, they just aren’t installed there.

The 2005-2015 Tacoma had factory mudflaps, the 2016-2023 don’t.

There are differences to factory parts vs. PIO and DIO accessories, and it’s not in who makes the part, necessarily. There is a different supply chain, different pricing formulas, and there is often a different expectation on long-term availability.

If current Tacomas had factory mudflaps, SET probably wouldn’t have boards that don’t fit with the flaps installed.

It may all be the same thing to the end user, but Toyota considers 2015 Tacoma mudflaps to be “Toyota Genuine Parts” and 2016 Tacoma mudflaps to be “Toyota Genuine Accessories.”

Of course there are some accessories that are just factory parts either ordered as such or packaged together under an accessory part number, but they’re less common from Toyota USA or Toyota Canada than from Toyota Japan even.

If you see a Toyota part number that begins with C, P, or 0, it’s most likely an accessory (or in the case of 0, an accessory or special repair/maintenance kit).

These only extend the length of the cab, and are offered for AC and DC for both bed lengths.

These will fit any double cab. Bed length doesn’t matter.

so every Tacoma in Canada gets the same accessory installed? Seems like we’re splitting hairs here. The style of side steps the OP has aren’t offered in Canada, or at least on toyota.ca so maybe that’s the issue as to why they don’t work together.

Your obviously very knowledgeable on this subject and I appreciate the info. I hope I don't come across as argumentative but I've installed quite a few parts that start with P. Would all of these be considered "accessories"?

    - PT280 89210-2F (red center cap)
    - PT076-60200-02 (black lugnuts)
    - PTR56-89210-F2 ('21+ 4Runner TRD Pro wheels)
    - PT345-35170 (mud guards)
    - PT857-35200 (Bed lights)
    - PK3B6-35JS0 (Remote tailgate lock)
    - PT228-35200-AA (TRD Pro grill)
    - PT595-35210 (TRD Pro Grill cam bracket)
    - PT21235055 (OEM Running boards I previously installed)

These side steps are apparently aftermarket items offered by the South East Toyota (SET) region. It now makes sense that I could never find a part number for them when I was looking for them.

Yes, there are a lot of port installed options (PIO) that distributors put in all vehicles. Toyota Canada does this for floor mats (carpet and all weather), wheel locks, splash guards on vehicles without them from the factory, and so on.

It may be splitting hairs to you, but it isn’t in a bunch of situations when these things actually matter or when you want to understand why the running boards you are trying to install hit the mudflaps, lol.

You can choose not to care about it, but it actually matter, and there are real implications in many cases.

For example, mud flaps, floor mats, and wheel locks are not in the parts catalog. Center caps are, but not for a TRD Pro, since the TRD Pro doesn’t leave the factory with the wheels that come on a TRD Pro, they’re installed at port (except the older TRD Pro Tundra, which just had the factory wheels painted black).

Yes, none of those are factory parts, they’re all accessories.

Factory centre caps would start 42603 or 4260B.
Factory lug nuts start with 90942.
Factory wheels start with 42601 or 42611.
Factory mud guards start with 76621 for RF, 76622 for LF, 76625 for RR, and 76626 for LR (or other similar 76xxx numbers).
Factory bed lights would start with 8151A.
Factory grille would start with 53101 or 53111.
Factory front camera bracket would start with 8679x.
Factory running boards would start with 5177x for RH io 5178x for LH.

Well, now this is settled, OP, you did a fine job on making them fit. When I first bought my truck, I tried to find more information on the running boards but came up short. Now I see why. Intresting thread.

I have those same ones on my 2023, here in BC. They look and fit great! Not rock sliders by any means, but perfect for my uses..

very well, however the issue was the non oem running boards. No part number as OP stated. I don’t see how an oem accessory would interfere with other oem parts on your Toyota. I would assume they were engineered to work together if designed and listed to fit said truck.
