I’ve used these spring compressors for years on various springs. This last time it was on cold OEM strut springs that had been sitting in my non heated garage. It popped so fast. I think what saved me was having the strut on my bench sitting horizontally. I’m pretty sure if I had the strut upright I would have gotten hurt. Be sure to use compressors with safely clips, don’t compress beyond limits, get help, have a professional do it if you’re uncomfortable, or use an industrial strut compressor. Be safe peeps.

I've converted to the weight of truck method now after years of using a spring compressor. Won't ever go back.

I'm also on board with the weight compression method. It keeps body parts out of the line of fire.

I saw and considered those bolt compressors, but I never felt comfortable with them. There's too much that can go wrong.

Yikes, glad you stayed out of harm's way! The big wall mounted spring compressors that you find in repair shops are sweet, I just don't use them enough to justify owning one.

That is what I did originally when I took them out to take the top hat off. I was selling them and need to get a top hat back on.

Unfortunately I didn’t notice one of the top hats was removed before I sold it. Lesson learned, wasn’t worth the hassle to install it back on.

May be it's due to the stress fatigue factor over the time being. Glad you made it out okay.
Thanks for the heads up tho.
