Whining/whistling/ringing noise coming from the rear when accelerating?

Sounds like maybe the driveline or rear dif? It happens once I reach 60mph and release/ press the gas pedal, and turns into a constant high pitched frequency at 80mph and above. Since it seems to sync with my gas pedal I assume its driveline related, any ideas?

 

Well known, not a concern (at least, I don't think anyone has found that it's a symptom of something that has or is going bad).

That is, of course, assuming you're in a 3rd gen?

 

Is common on both 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas. Even tho it sounds like it's coming from the rear diff the truth is the rear diff, along with axle, springs and the rest of the rear driveline, develops a resonance which can be heard as a whine when feathering the accelerator pedal at those speeds.
It only happens on a few Tacomas and it is of varying degrees of resonance.
A few years ago there was a TSB issued and that involved some rubber spacers and insulation for the cab corner. It helped some, not others.
My new Tacoma has it slightly.
It will cause zero problems except noise.

 

I've owned 6 Toyota trucks since 1981. Every one of them did it. I think the e-lockers are maybe a little more noticeable. If my truck didn't do it I'd be worried.

 

You wouldn't happen to have access to the TSB or happen to know how to apply the fix at home? I drive a lot and the noise becomes very bothersome

I'll get a whistling sound at those speeds from my truck if I remove the front chin spoiler. Put it back on...crickets.

 

That's interesting, I never experienced and additional noise when I removed mine. It's funny that you would get a whistle.
