Hanging in a friend’s garage. I’ve seen them red with the bottle and some that just say Coca Cola but never seen a white one. It’s dusty but in great shape!

 

Has anyone got any info to share on a licence plate like this. Never seen one before.

 

Pretty sure it was a license plate for someone in the armed forces and stationed in West Germany.

 

I had to look it up, as I have never seen a plate like that before, but apparently they are very common US Forces plates given to people stationed overseas with a personal vehicle (your plate looks like it was from someone stationed in Germany, as it has the German word for expires on the sticker). Love the skyline at the top of the plate. I have a few plates but just started looking for more that have scenery in the background or pictures on them.

You've got some Georgia history there with those tags.
County codes were originally assigned according to county population. The list was revised for 1962 plates, based on the 1960 census. The county code system survives today, but as an internal "office code" for the counties. The latest evidence in plates was as late as the 1997 issuance of the "...on my mind" base plates, as initial distributions of plates were based on the office numbers (in reverse), with Echols County (#159) receiving "AAA" series, and Fulton County (#1) receiving most of the "Mxx" series plates.

The first number was the county assigned by the number of registered vehicles. Such as Dekalb = 2 (1962-1970). Previously it was 3 (1957-1961). Chatham held #2 from 1957-1961.
The same with Putnum (1957-1961) and Lumpkin (1962-1970) for your 122 tag.

I bet I've got 300 tags. Used to go to junk yards and pull them off of cars to make birdhouse roofs or even make repairs in garage walls where the squirrels would find a way in. The grand kids want to take them to the aluminum recycler so they can have some spending money.
