    Hi all,

I have a 2013 Tacoma with the tow package and off road package. I am going to be buying an 18ft camper trailer that will come in with a loaded weight of ~4000lbs and a tongue weight of 390lbs. I am looking for a recommendation for a weight distribution hitch. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Brian

I use the Equalizer weight dist. hitch with 4 point sway control on my Tundra for my RV. I really like the built in sway control. I have air bags on my Tacoma for load control, primarily pulling a utility trailer with golf cart.
4000 lbs is a LOT of trailer for a Tacoma - IMO - pulling a trailer that weighs almost as much (and maybe more when loaded) as your tow vehicle...... Good luck!

I had a very similar set up. I'll try to find a pic when I'm done typing......
There is no better, safer hitch than the Equal-i-zer. Once its set up correctly its easy on-easy off. Nothing you buy is going to keep the tail from wagging the dog any better. Not cheap....but what is the price you put on safety?
I wish you were local, I'd sell you mine cheap. I no longer have my camper after using it for about 10-12 years.Truck camper 2.jpg

Thanks J. The 4000lb number is what I expect the weight to be around fully loaded, if that. I think it will be closer to 3500 but I am being cautious. The dry weight is 2864lbs. My tacoma is rated at 6500lb tow capacity.

I used an Eaz-Lift Elite WDH with my Jayco which was about 5,500lbs loaded and had a hitch weight of ≈650lbs. The hitch leveled the truck out nicely when it was hooked up.

I have towed a Escape E19 with a 2014 PreRunner up & over the Blue Ridge Mts on 40, about 8 times this year. Sits around 3800, I guess. Had no problems, but I do make use of the climbing lanes. Not in a hurry anymore. The Escape came with an Anderson WDH. Huge help in wind. I have nerve damage to right hand & am a 68 yr old female. Pieces are lighter weight to set up. Takes more time. But if I'm still traveling at 78............ https://www.amazon.com/3324-Anderse...cint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4584138872490454

Thanks. I saw a youtube video on this one from a guy that has the trailer I am going to get. I like it. This is high up on my list right now.

You don't need a WDH with an 18', 4000 lb trailer. I pulled a 22' 4500 lb trailer with only a sway control bar with no issues at all. When you get to 5000 lbs and over 25' maybe.

You dont NEED IT. But its highly recommended, keeps things way more balanced and safe.

It's more about tongue weight than trailer weight and the general suggestion is that a WDH should be used if your tongue weight exceeds 350lbs.

My tongue weight is 390lbs. In the end I would rather go a little overboard on the safety side. I am not an experienced trailer puller (yet) and want that extra bit of security.
