    Here's a story.....
I had several feral cats in my neighborhood, we rescued over ten of the kittens before the spca came out and trapped the momma and had her spayed. We had 9 out of the 10 we took in that were fantastic.....but, we had 1 that was a total shit head.
I wanted the cat, he was a complete Russian blue and fluffy AF.
I trapped him in a corridor and when I caught him at 2 am in the morning he was pissed. As I grabbed him, he proceeded to use his teeth and bit me 9 times in the hand. The 9th bite was in between the thumb and pointing finger. I held onto him and he held onto me with teeth in my hand. I took him into the apartment and just threw him into the bathroom. He was a mean bastard. After treating my 18 fang bites and all the scratches, I went back into the bathroom and he was nowhere to be found. Knowing there are no escapes in that room, I start looking around. This kitten had wedged himself into a hole between the bathroom sink cabinet and the wall. At 2am I had break out the Sawzall and cut away half of the cabinet to get him out:annoyed:
Got him a flea bath and set him loose in the apartment. This kitty was especially antisocial and proceeded to piss and spray on whatever he was near, it wasn't too bad to deal with at first. Eventually, it came down to about a year later he sprayed/ruined over 2k$ worth of furniture in a day. I ended up chasing him out my apartment and let him back outside. Within a week, I saw him as a pancake on the main boulevard :(. I liked the cat, but he was completely uncooperative. We tried to catch him for year to get him neutered, hoping the spraying would stop. He would not be captured again was his attitude.

I know what you are saying. Some feral cats/kittens just can’t be domesticated. You generally know them right away. They are hostile and antisocial from the get go, and don’t change no matter what you do. Just like people. Our cat Copper was born to feral parents. We did get him fairly young. 14 years later he’s a mellow, loving indoor house cat. He has run outside a few times. He gets out there , looks around and decides it ain’t for him and runs back inside.
You did all you could but that cat couldn’t be changed. Good on you JaCado for trying.

We have had a menagerie of animals over the past 20 years, 15 cats, 3 dogs, 5 lizards, 2 snakes, a possum, 5 squirrels, a mole, 25 toads, and a large bird that looked like a baby falcon. My wife and I are animal lovers and will do all the we can to rescue what we find.:hattip:

I think you guys are comparing apples with oranges. I agree that feral cats have a short hard life they don't enjoy one bit. The difference between a cared for cat that is allowed to go in and out as it pleases and one which is confined indoors for life is my point. And yes, of course an indoor cat will be scared to go outside at first, but will ease into the outdoors if given the chance. Cats are the most patient of all animals, and will wait for a mouse till hell freezes over. Sitting in a window waiting to see what's outside is no kind of life for a naturally inquisitive, explorative animal. It's animal cruelty.

I think we should distinguish that not every breed of cat is good at being an outdoor, indoor, or both sort of cat. Some just don't handle the freedom to go outside well, some outdoor (Barn) cats want nothing to do with the indoors, and some are just great at having that freedom.

You have never met Captain Fluffy Butt (aka.. Miracle). I will leave the front door open, he wanders outside without my knowledge. I close the front door on him and he is like the Flintstones cat trying to get back in.:fistbump:

Cats are a remarkably adaptable species. However, if you talk to any vet the facts are clear; cats that go outside regardless of how well they are cared for, generally have a shorter life span than cats that are still let outside, but don't roam free around the neighborhood. Ive had many remarkable felines over my 50+ years and each one had their own personalities, but you can still let your cat outside to enjoy nature without the risk of them roaming free, which is where the shortened life span generally comes from.

Pretty sure these guys should not go outside. :notsure:

    https://youtu.be/dBpOCditrv4

Coming from a guy that has 2 indoor/outdoor cats, FrickFrack and Kitkat can handle it though and it would be cruel to keep them in. They either have what it takes or they don't. My Neighbor/sister inlaw has a cat that should NOT be outdoors. Our cats beat her up on the regular. Just sayin.

My understanding is that it is a genetic mutation that's been exploited by breeders - similar to the hairless "sphinx" breed.

“It's animal cruelty” , come on Alan, that is just bullshit. It is just your personal “feelings”, it is based on nothing but your feelings. Cats are technically personal property, all we can do is hope people treat them with kindness and love. If kindness to you is letting them roam free in the city then that’s your thing. Do what you think is right. But don’t go telling other people that keeping a cat indoors is cruel, that is just unfounded bullshit. What you are doing with your accusation of cruelty is called anthropomorphism.

My Lego Build Supervisor has decided she needs to be heavily involved in my Space Station Build. If only she would just go outside and catch herself a mouse so I can get something done around here.

I'll defer that question to the girlfriend who raised her... let's just say we are both trained to follow her into the walk in closet, so she can use our shoulders to jump up high and get on the top shelf whenever she decides she wants up there.

I went to see if she was still up there on the top shelf, where she went after breakfast this morning, and yep, she's there, and not happy I interrupted her nap.
