This guy is a master Toyota technician, so take that for what it's worth. I've seen numerous threads about people saying that you should do your first oil change at 5k/10k miles because that's what Toyota recommends.
Bottom line is this: if you want your motor to last 300k+ miles, do an early first oil change and every 3k-5k thereafter.
If you only plan on keeping the car for the lease and only want the motor to last a bit past the warranty, wait until 10k miles for your first oil change.

    It won’t be the last.
    People will continue to argue.
Why they argue? I don’t know.

I find it much easier to just do what I want.
    Which is, every 5k.

If others want to do it sooner, good.
Longer, good. (Just check the oil between changes)

Once through oiling systems are the only way to end the change interval debate.

I can’t hit my quota to remain a native Texan without one of those per year.

I would think the 99%, or more, Tacoma owners aren’t on forums. Have no clue about what people think is the right time to change the oil. They just do it at 10k and the truck runs forever.

I like how my wife’s Lincoln will adjust when to change by how it’s driven.

When It comes to maintenance, I follow the severe service guide line. Every 5k OCI. But don't take it from me that it works, listen to the guys that see the results 7-10 after the manufacturers have long moved on from an engine or even model and we're left with the results.
