Whenever I get in a bad mood because of all my aches and pains, I remind myself of two other patients who I spent time with in recovery from my spinal cord injury. I was in the hospital for 3+ weeks after surgery to remove the tumor and take the pressure off my spinal cord. Learning to walk again, physical and occupational therapy....

One was a fairly young looking man, I would have guessed mid 30's. He was almost completely paralyzed. His young wife and very young daughter would come to visit him ever day during our lunch break (in between our various sessions of therapy). They would velcro strap a spoon to the one hand he could somewhat control, and he could just get some food from his own plate up to his mouth. That was about all he was able to do on his own when I left the hospital. I do not know how much, if any, he may have ever improved.

Another was a young woman, probably late 20's. I struck up a friendship of sorts with her parents when we learned that the young woman (their daughter) had graduated form the same university that I had. Anyway, she had been creamed by a car very early one morning when she was out for her morning run/jog, something like 6:00 AMish as I recall. She was banged up pretty bad, but could walk with help and most likely did go on to make a full recovery. She also happened to have just graduated Medical school and was in her first year of Residency when this happened to her.

I'm not in very good shape, but ever since I left the hospital form that spinal cord injury, I have been capable of a pretty normal life, although much slower at some things. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have recovered as much as I did. I sometimes think of the two people I described above, and remind myself that "But for the Grace of God, there go I".

Morning all! Happy Friday! I might have to check out this maple syrup fair thing in Highland County!

Also, does anyone here fish using a Tenkara style/technique? I like this style because it's what I've always done with my spinner, just didn't know there was something out there that was a middle between fly fishing and reel fishing.

One of the voices in my head said they missed the screen snow. I said STFU and repressed them down into the recesses of my mind that no one comes back from. Showed them!

Good morning. Happy Friday. Today I will be on a 4 wheel scooter as it looks like my Plantar fascia decided to rupture the other day. Yesterday I did the whole crutches thing. Haha what a comedy…I should have had someone video me. The office staff couldn’t handle it anymore so they put me in a wheelchair. Today I will be cruising in style. Getting old sucks. Have a great day. Stay Well…Stay Safe

    Good morning everybody, Friday :woot:

I have a Tenkara rig. I got it last year, used it a few times in lakes and some of our blackwater swamps. It’s fun when you hook a small bass or crappie. @MTgirl has one too.

Morning 50's. Spent last Sunday with Baby Zay and Baby Alora. Baby Addie came over to visit Tuesday after work. Hoping for a visit this weekend, trying to make it a full workday but IDK.... 330443509_1172098366781565_6673892834977_c5446a291b6d9db6edbdb6500a0007fdc75b57cb.jpg

:hungry: are you getting some to share with all of us?

geez Tom. had no idea you'd gone through all of that.
the kids comments just me a chuckle - definitely felt like my warranty ran out when i hit 40. my back issues started not long after. damn kids aren't too far off on their thinking
i do. i got a Tenkara USA Hane to tinker with last year. Used to fish years ago but lost interest (and accidentally left my gear in AK with my ex husband) so I've just been slowly getting back into it. The Tenkara is fun, works best in smaller streams. You don't have much reach so you cant fish big water where the fishies can run away, got to keep them close. Works fine for me - if I go to a bigger river I just end up on the little side channels that everyone else ignores. Main river is full of fishermen and side channels are usually just me.
If you are thinking about one I give two thumbs up to Tenkara USA - they were spot on with customer service during my ordering process and have great reviews for standing by their stuff as far as warranties and replacements and things like that. They regularly send me coupon codes too - would be happy to share if you get serious about buying something

    Morning Cuties!
