I remember back in 2021 when I order those wheels for my 21, Tacomas weren’t listed on the Toyota parts page. I was told technically they were for 4runners, so the Tacoma wouldn’t be listed. Mine fit perfectly.

Sadly it isn't slang, it is ignorance.

Unless of course you are a flatbiller and you get your slang from this guy -

The hub is a part of the axle, not the drum. I wouldn't go reaming the wheels by hand either. These are hub-centric wheels.

There's another thread on this topic, but there are basically 3 good options to fit these wheels:

    1. Thin wheel spacer
    2. Shorten the axle hub
    3. Machine the wheel bore deeper

I did it guys, Thank you! I ended up going with wheels spacers and so far I've had zero problems with them; no vibration. Tire size and type: bfg, kO2's, 275X70 R16. Next mod will be a lift.

I'd like to know the reason Toyota changed the bore size. The more options the consumer has from Toyota and the more versatile Toyota or TRD accessories are across different vehiclesthe better it is for Toyota and their customers.

Only if the wheels are hub centric. If they have tapered lugs they are lug centric.

I'd say the use of the term "rim" instead of "wheel" is absolutely slang. Sure, it's technically incorrect... but it's still slang.

Weed, grass, pot... all slang for marijuana. But of course, marijuana is is not technically a type of grass.

OP, those look great on your truck. These 2021 4runner Pro wheels are by far my favorite wheel on the 3rd generation. Here's how much I had to bevel the rear hub in order to not modify the wheels. Obviously the rear hub on the new 4runner doesn't protrude as much as the one on the Taco. It took a good bit of grading to get to this. I used 1/2" PEX to protect the threads when I was grinding.

And here's a pic of my OEM's with 265/70r17 on my MGM with 1.5"/1.5" lift..
    20230218_085816.jpg

Although not OEM, the APG aftermarket wheels look like a nice alternative that bolts right up. They are a 17 x 8" and offered in several colors.

Anyone have any knowings if this problem exists for newer 4Runner trail wheels? I just grabbed some to put on my Tacoma and having them mounted next and wondering if I’ll run into issue also…

Unless someone can confirm, I highly recommend pulling one of your rear wheels and testing it before mounting tires. It's easier to modify to deal with modding hubs or wheels without dealing with the tires mounted. I beveled my rear hubs myself and can't tell you how many times I put the wheel on to test fit after grinding.
