Hello everyone,
I`m trying to decide between
BF Goodrich KO2 and Falken Wildpeak AT3W.
Which one has more traction on snow and less noise on road?
This is my question now.

Dedicated wither tires, four of them, I grew up in Nh and always run em from November through mid April.

I don’t buy tires for looks.

 

I would go for the Wildpeak since they are quiter and seem to perform better in the snow for me. Both look great to me.

 

This matches my thinking. Learned to drive in the Winter (when we actually had Winter in CT). In my teens & 20s I loved to be the first to put tracks down an unplowed road. With Summer tires no less on a '69 Nova SS. Now its 2 sets of 4.
Serious snows for Winter (if it ever returns to CT). Appearance? WTF - don't really care. Performance is key. Rubber composition is what matters. Good traction in snow requires a softer rubber composition that 'sticks.' Durability on bare pavement sucks.
Quieter long mileage tires for bare pavement. I'll manage just fine in a pinch if snow comes early.

 

KO2s only come in LT.
AT3Ws come in LT and SL; SL have silica compound.

LT vs LT.
AT3W in deeper snow(offroad) with it's deeper tread depth and zigzag siping. Deeper tread depth is generally louder though.

LT(KO2) vs SL(AT3W)
AT3W in wet shallower snow(road) with it's silica compound and zigzag siping. The shallower tread depth of the SL should produce less noise.

Sounds like your use and requirements dictates you get the AT3W in an SL.

 

For snow Goodyear Duratrac are outstanding.

 

KO's are not great in the snow. With either tire, be aware you're going to lose fuel economy and get more noise. If you're mostly interested in looks, go for whichever looks better to you. As noted, if you want ultiate traction, get snow tires.

 

Best tire I’ve come across atm is Toyo open country at3. It’s tri peak snow rated. But is m+s and super quiet on road. Awesome in mud too!

 

Personally, I just bought K02's but I was hoping for Falken's. Unfortunately shipping/inventory in my area is abysmal.

 

If low noise and snow performance is what you want, get Nokian Outpost ATs. They’re quieter and it’s hard to beat Nokian in snow. General Grabber ATXs do come close, they have surprisingly good snow performance.

of those two choices the wildpeak at3W may be a bit better in the snow and in colder temperatures especially over the life of the tire. as for road noise, i doubt there will a discernible difference.

as someone mentioned above, the wildpeak comes in different load ranges and i would suggest the SL rather than the LT.

 

More importantly, where is the Nova now??

Neither. Toyo ATIII or General Grabber A/TX are a better choice. Also, choosing tires simply based on looks is about the worst possible metric you could use for choosing tires.

 

So many choices when it comes to tires. I've run the Maxxis RAZR AT for a couple years now and am a fan. I've taken taken them off-road all around Colorado and on road trips to Arizona, Ohio(twice), and California without any complaints. I'll buy these again when it comes time to replace them.
