Have had my New 2023 Tacoma for 6 weeks now and have put on 1500 Km's. I have a few greivences already and am seriously thinking of selling it already. This is the loudest interior of any vehicle I have owned in the last 25 years. Going down the hwy sounds like the back window is open. Does sound proofing the cabin help, what material to use? Secondly the transmission and engine don't work well together, it's like the truck doesn't know which gear it wants to be in. Not the best driving experience. And lastly the exhaust sounds like it has a leak in the muffler, very annoying when excellerating. I love the look of this truck, but it's not much fun to drive.

    Sounds about normal.
The engine is also direct injection, that is inherently loud in itself.

As for the shifting, you are going to need to get used to it, or get a tune.
I vote, get a tune. It will be like a whole different truck.

    Oh, and welcome to TW!

Hmm, I actually rate my tacoma to be pretty well insulated from sounds on the inside compared to some current passenger cars

Have you brought it back to the dealership to have them check it over for what you're experiencing? Very possible something needs to be fixed. It took 3 trips and 2 Toyo service departments to find the prob with my new at the time '22 and fix it correctly (installed new drums but not before turning the fronts which did nothing to solve the problem). I remember thinking to myself, how can a brand new truck with 5 mi on the odo have such terrible brakes? But it did.

I agree, I've driven quieter cars but I also test drove 2 used 3rd gen TRD ORs before purchasing the new one so I had a pretty good idea of what to expect from a new one including how the truck should stop when the brakes are applied. I could tell one of them was driven hard and put away wet all it's life even with low mileage on the odo. The new truck is quieter than the used ones but hey, it's all relative.

Update: installed a Vibrant quiet resonator to the exhaust system on my new 2023 Tacoma Sport this week. What a difference! The high pitch drone sound is gone leaving a nice tone in the exhaust sound in the cab. Thanks Tacoma World for the idea. Next project is to sound proof the cab.
