Yeah throw a pair 5100's on. Their good for 0"-1" put them on yourself, easy install. Their an upgrade, bit stiffer ride over your OR stockers.

If you have basic hand tools, an hour of time and a beer you can get this done yourself. No lift, no jacking, quick and easy job.

 

i had the bilstein 4600's on a stock truck and really liked them and preferred them to the 5100's. the 4600's were firm but not harsh. i found the 5100's harsh and lacked the dampening and steering control i expected. i was very surprised at the difference given how popular and highly rated the 5100's are.

I'd start with 5100's for now, you can do them at home yourself, then leaf pack and front 5100's later on.

 

You didn't blow shocks on one railroad track. It takes a lot of abuse.

Rear shocks are the easiest suspension part to replace. You might be able to get a lightly used set of OEM off road Bilsteins from someone in your local Tacoma group also.

 

… or he drives a lot of washboard roads, or over lots of potholes in low budget public roads, etc.

 

If you liked the ride with stock shocks, stick with those. You can get new takeoffs, on here, or facebook super cheap. If wants to stay close to original ride, but upgrade go with 4600's. 5100's will be a bit firmer.

 

local-yokal assholes do that shit. I’ve been in sales for decades, and one of the many things I learned on the road: is the locals will ride your ass right in to town and laugh when you get pulled over. Of course that’s when they could pull people over.
I just let off the gas now when people tailgate me, no brake check, just coast til they whip around me. Of course I’ll see em a bit later.

 

Aren’t the 5100s just an adjustable 4600? They’re both entry level

 

5100's are better for the washboard, heavier loads and heavier tires. They are valved differently.

I run dirt roads about 30% daily and I use 4600s. It's nicer than stock but wish I had the more aggressive 5100's for when the roads are tore up and rippled. Especially after I did a leaf upgrade.

 

I dumped the rear 4600 stock shocks for 5100s and never looked back. Haven't done the fronts.

 

Factory OR shocks aren't 4600s. Did you have just the simple TRD yellows? 4600s are bigger than factory ORs.
