I visit that planer on the H.D. website every week or so. Can't justify it. Yet.

They dont get any cheaper.....I've had mine for about 15 years now. It's an excellent planer.
The only way I would replace it is if it died or dewalt came out with a version with a carbide insert cutting head.
I use the amana blades in mine, they last much longer than stock blades.

When I bought redwood 2x4s for my greenhouse frame I went to a redwood specific lumber yard. They have fence rail (I think that's what they call it) semi rough grade. It costs less, and since it's just a greenhouse, I went with those. Turns out they are actual 2 inches by 4 inches. There is some minor variation though. If I had a drum sander... but I don't need them to be 2x4.

For woodworking projects, all the shops around here that sell walnut, oak, etc, come in s3 and s4. There are a few guys that have slabs on craigslist though, but I don't have the tools to re-saw 8/4 down to a useable thickness.

Watch Amazon. Got it for $630. The price fluctuates, but that is the lowest I have seen it go lately.

Interesting. Most of the hardwood I buy around here comes rough. Woodcraft is the only place that surfaces it

The F clamps from harbor freight are thin metal. They bend, the longer they are. It’s why I don’t have them any more.

Maybe it’s called the “bar clamp.” Idk. It’s what I assumed since I don’t often see people with actual F clamps for fine woodworking. The welding ones are fine enough.

If you live in the northern climes where there are lots of hardwood forest there are also a lot of Sawyers. Also search craigslist in the materials section for hardwoods, usually the Sawyers will pop up there. There's several guys just north of me in the Detroit area. But I'm spoiled, I mill my own. The Sawyers will usually have good pricing on their lumber. You can also buy a whole log from them so all the wood matches.

We have at least 4 places selling hardwood, all finished; Lowes (limited selection), Home Depot (oak, cherry, walnut, mahogany, poplar - but $$), Hughes hardwoods and Hardwoods Sacramento. Searching Craigslist I usually see several guys selling slabs, plus we have a non-profit (Urban Wood Rescue) that takes trees that are being cut down and mills them into slabs. They offer kiln dried, air dried and green. Haven't found a place that sells milled rough...

Crazy that your HD sells that selection. My HD is fairly rural so we don't get crap but poplar and redoak. Even the Lowes across the street sell ambrosia maple.
