Is the 3rd gen 4 cylinder that slow?

I hear they don't gear hunt like the V6 though

 

It’s because they never get out of third gear.

 

I really wanted to be offended by that, but it's too damn funny not to like!

That’s quite a stretch, many were referring to a lack of 4 power.

 

I own a single cab 5 Speed 2.7 on flat ground you’re perfectly fine you can even easily pass cars, on inclines is where you feel the lack of power, on a lot of inclines I’m in 3rd gear at about 3500 to 4k to do 70 75mph

last year in telluride I remember having to shift into 1st gear on a paved road but I was able to conquer Imogene pass (13,500 feet)

 

With great power comes great responsibility. Once you hit 3500 RPM, you gotta put on your war face.

 

Might I suggest to you V6 guys that your time may be better spent away from 4 cylinder critiques and instead checking your trucks for oil leaks and other major V6 issues?

youre buying a tacoma, they are all slow as shit. go rent a 2.7 for a day, the v6 is sluggish too. youre looking for refinement, which tacoma does not have

 

I had a 2.7 auto 1st gen prerunner. Slow was an understatement. V6 isn't fast either, but at least get the V6.

 

I had a gen 2 with the 4 banger and now a gen 3 with the 4 banger. It does just fine going back and forth to the lumber yard and the golf course. If you keep your trucks for a long time, the 4 banger will reward you with reliability. The auto trans has a sport feature allowing you to shift up or down with traffic. It does rush hour just fine. But it is not as fast as my Kia Soul.

 

My 2017 has no such problems. The overwhelming popularity of the 3G 3.5L v6, which is the most numerous Tacoma model ever built, and now the most numerous V6 pickup truck ever made by Toyota, is bound to have a few leakers in there.

 

Get a v6 , or don’t get a Tacoma, very simple.

 

The 6 cylinder is slow. The 6 cylinder is faster than the 4. ECT will not make it any faster.

 

You poor thing; like me you must have been so frightened a finishing nail couldn’t have been hammered into your ass but you lived and that’s what matters. Congrats!

 

Don't own a tesla, but don't own an overweight 4 cylinder tacoma either.
