I’m sure they are great vehicles, but why do they gotta make them so damn ugly? I like stuff that looks different, and don’t want everything to look like a Camry, but my eyes don’t compute what Lexus is trying to achieve with their styiling:

    Classic: nope
    Refined: nope
    Sporty: nope
    Luxurious: nope
    Muscular: nope

Tacky plastic garbage vaguely looking like a Transformer: yes

I think the designers at Lexus took one look at the Lonestar when it was introduced and said that's the direction we are going, and ran with it.[IMG] [IMG]

"Based on data from 61 vehicles, 1,681 fuel-ups and 430,493 miles of driving, the 2022 Nissan Frontier gets a combined Avg MPG of 17.54 with a 0.13 MPG margin of error." vs. a clickbait youtuber.

    Sure.

Go rent one and drive it for a few hundred miles on the highway and see what you get.

So we are left with 1 of 2 possibilities:

    1. The video showing a loop of 40 miles is correct and 431k miles of data is wrong
    or
    2. 431k miles of data is correct and reflects real world expected MPG's, and a 40 mile loop @ 45 MPH is not

Go with your gut homie. I don't doubt he got what he said he did, but a user can't possibly expect that driving to work and whatnot. Otherwise it would match fuelly numbers.

You left out the part where I have rented two of them and got high 20’s each time. Driving style plays a huge part. If you constantly mash the gas and brake pedals like I see most people do you are going to get shitty mpgs.

Fuelly data covers this. I somehow doubt the 681 users on Fuelly are all pretending to be Big Daddy Dan Garlits.

Doing a loop @ 45mph, or checking mileage after all highway miles tells you nothing more than the Highway MPG. Still need the city rating and combined. Fuelly is going to show combined numbers.

A single video showing 26.3 MPG, must be true for all of them.

There is a thread in this sub showing people getting higher than advertised MPG too. Outliers are a thing.

I would put my money on whatever transmission Toyota uses, it will be built by Aisin.

That's who Toyota usually sources their transmissions from? Then that's probably what it will be.

Maybe it will be the 10spd from the Tundra since it's already been developed. Toyota might not want to use something as similar on both trucks. Toyota does weird things sometimes that don't make sense, but might make sense to them financially, but still don't make sense financially.

I think Ford has 2 or 3 veriations of their 10spd between Ranger F-150 and Super Duty. Might only be 2, and I don't know what the difference is I vaguely recall seeing two different part codes for the Ford 10spd.

Would Toyota want to have a new transmission for the next gen Tacoma?

On one hand the Tacoma is projected to sell well and probably been in production for a decade. TNGA-F is a global platform. Hilux is popular in its market, Prado will be all new, and if there's a 6th gen 4Runner that will need a transmission, so will the new GX.

On the other hand Tacoma would be the only vehicle in NA that's running the rumored 2.4t in a truck configuration, and those other global vehicles most likely will have a manual offering and different diesel, and probably the 4.0 v6 gas engine options.

I don't know if it's because the rest of the 4th gen details are pretty much front page, and all but confirmed common knowledge? I'm more interested in knowing what transmission will end up in the 4G.

I believe the LC 300 is running an 8spd auto. Could there be a variation of it for the Tacoma?

Toyota owns 22% of Aisin and it is a member of the Toyota Group of companies, Aisin sells 70% of what it produces to Toyota. They also build some of Ram's HD transmissions. Toyotas relationship and ownership of Aisin, is one of the reasons why Toyotas have very reliable transmissions.

The LC has a 10 speed auto transmission same as the Tundra and Sequoia. Chances are whatever auto transmission they have decided on for the 4th Tacoma, it will the the same in the 6th gen 4 runner.

That's right all LCs get the 10spd. I thought some of the none 3.5s got something different. I must have been reading too much GM stuff lately. That means the 4.0 V6 sold overseas gets the 10spd auto. Maybe the 4.0 will make its way to the 4th gen? I know that's not happening.

IMO it wouldn't make sense to build an entirely different transmission for the smaller TNGAF platform. Toyota might do something goofy and lock out some of the gears so it's not a 10spd.

Toyota limits the output on lower trim Tundras, which is dumb IMO, although there could be some trade off to extend the life on the low output version of the same engine.

If Toyota wasn't so slow in getting this 4th gen out people probably wouldn't be debating the Frontier's fuel economy. The Frontier of all trucks that took for ever to see a refresh and new drivetrain.

Let’s get this back on track.
I hear that the hybrid “Tacoma” is going to be branded as the Prius T.
It will be perfect for city people and their trips to Whole Foods, buying a couple bags of organic potting soil and some new furniture from IKEA.
