When did your OEM shocks wear out?

    Stock and staying that way
    It isn’t bouncy, but the shocks on my 85k mile Limited don’t feel new anymore either. Thinking about replacing them.

    When did yours wear out?

    There’s an infinite amount of scenarios,,, expectations, heat, surfaces, habits, distances, etc etc etc

    I think its time.

    A quick test is to remove a rear shock (because easy) and work it by hand. The old 'bounce the car' thing doesn't work so well with heavier springs.

    Can you elaborate on "don’t feel new anymore"?

    Personally, I've only replaced one set of shock absorbers in 30+ years of driving. In that case, the seals on 2 of them failed at around 150k miles and the oil leaked out caused a big obvious mess. I barely noticed any difference in ride quality, so it's possible they still had enough oil to function at minimal levels. I think people on this forum generally worry too much about their shock absorbers.

    I never replaced the rear shocks on my 2001 tundra, and that truck had 290k+ miles. The front struts were changed twice after finding their lower eyes broken off the chassis mounts

    73k miles on mine and they still feel tight, no noises. But the upper bushings on the rear shocks are cracking.

    I came from a 2005 TRD Sport, after about 5K, the bounce/float of the limited suspension scared the bejesus out of me and I put on Bilstein 5100’s. Could not be happier

    At 6 years and 125,000 miles I started getting cupping on my tires. The shocks/struts were no longer working. Mine were frozen and not compressing much at all. The opposite of what most see. I replaced all 4 before buying new tires. I'm at 234,000 now and everything is copasetic.
