I have several questions about purchasing the best brake controller for towing a very small 12 foot, 2 person camping trailer.

Currently, my truck is wired to pull my boat which has a traditional 4 pin plug. So, I bought a converter and mounted it to the truck. This lets me go back and forth between towing boat and towing RV. But, with the RV, it only operates lights and doesn't coordinate the braking system on the trailer.

    1. Which might be the best brake controller for my 2010 Toyota Tacoma? I prefer not to have a wireless controller, but one I switch manually from drivers seat.

2). Will installing a brake controller change my current practice of plugging in my boat trailer into the 7 pin adaptor for towing the RV?

3). Will the brake controller itself allow the marine battery on the RV to be recharged as I'm driving? (Note: it is also being recharged by Solar panel on the roof) .

Thanks in advance for your counsel!

Look at the Redarc brake controller.

    I second this ^
I have redarc, with the knob on the dash. Very convenient. The controller doesn’t interfere with charging, and comes on automatically when trailer plugged in.

My tekonsha stopped working after 4 years. I replaced it with the RedARC towpro about 2 years ago and have been happy with it.

My Prodigy has been in my truck and working flawlessly since I bought it in June, 2006. Completely plug and play....never needs adjusting. Always directing the correct amount of braking force to the trailer.

Another vote for Redarc…..very clean installation with the main unit tucked up under the dash and only a small knob showing for adjustment. Super easy to install.

Mild lift and some tasty bits
Redarc with the mount for the blank switch opening.
