    Hi all,

Looking at purchasing a 2009 AC TRD Off Road with 133k miles. Dealership states surface rust only, but wanted to get some opinions here. Price is $14k

Hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks a bit more than surface rust. What does the boxed section by the drivers seat look like? Around the cats.

I agree with Rnish, looks surface
Right behind the front tires get underneath the truck and look at that frame where the catalytic converter‘s come down start tapping around and inspect those areas well

For an 09 if you were in Ohio that is the norm on most of them if not worse.

Thanks everyone for the replies so far. It’s a few hour drive from me to check out the truck, so I am going to pass.

Good you passed. That is NOT just surface rust. Several places are definitely on the way to perforation.

Ideally, the only "surface rust" you'd want to see is along the frame welds. This is to be expected. But I would clean, prime and paint them with Rustoleum or equivalent and then spray everything with Fluid Film or Wool Wax.
