It's a really well known shop that normally does high quality work. Wasn't even the cheapest but close to it.

Well, I was waiting to update until after I get the hood back. I told me to bring the entire truck back ( i only dropped parts initially) so that they could buff out all the blemishes. I really, really don't want to leave my truck over there. When I got there, he gave me a slight bit of attitude and acted like it was no big deal, but I think he knew it was dog shit quality work.

He ended up just telling me to leave the hood and that they would fix it, but he didn't specify how and I didn't ask like a dummy I don't think he's planning on repainting it but I don't think there's another way, so we'll see what happens.

I hadn't seen the underside before but when they pulled it off I noticed there were massive drips on the underside as well, so it was definitely sloppy work.

I'll update after I pick up the hood.

That hood needs to be stripped and repainted.

It was even worse later. I was a bit too nervous to ask if they were going to repaint the whole thing, but I probably need to man up and call them on Monday and just tell him I want it repainted, not "fixed".

The chip, which was actually a paint bubble I guess, was pretty much down to the metal and he was implying that I did something to it when I never even touched it.

Same. This shop painted my coworkers truck and they did the best job I've pretty much ever seen, not sure why I got such shitty work.

Although, I did notice most of their employees looked like they were super young kids.

@drewskie I would mention when you "man up" and call them, the reason I brought my truck to you was you did such a great job on my buddys, word of mouth and all that...all the people in my 4x4 community that I talk to about this paint job, etc etc...I know people that "go off" on someone and you get an even crappier thing done. More flies caught by honey and all that...just my opinion. and yeah eventually, you have to become the vinegar, but when they have your stuff and are "fixing" it, be as sweet as honey..your call of course! Good Luck!

Yeah, That's pretty much exactly what I was planning on telling them, was that the reason I brought it there is because of the quality work I saw, and this is nowhere near that. I really don't want to have to write them a bad review but if I get the hood back and it's not perfect, I'm going to do that.

Take detailed pictures and video of the finished work, at the shop. This will document the finished work you receive. When recording and taking those pictures, be obvious and direct. Record your conversation as well as receiving the work in plain sight. Make sure you're being clear that you're recording the work and conversation to the owner. When doing so, be natural and go over the agreement as well as the statement mentioned above.

This will allow you to take any recourse if the work turns out shoddy again. I hope it doesn't have to come to this and they made it right.

So.... The hood has now been at the shop for like a week and a half, and the guy has not contacted me and didn't respond to my last text. I sort of want to keep waiting just to see how long he's going to take, but at the same time I need the hood back. I'll go over there tomorrow and just see what the progress looks like. I definitely plan on taking a bunch of pictures.

^ Record video of the whole interaction as I stated. You're going to have to stop being passive or you'll walk away with a poorly painted hood and plenty of regrets. You can be professional and direct to the business, just keep your cool but stand your ground on the work. I wish you the best of luck tomorrow.

I've been meaning to update this. I picked up the hood a few days ago, and they did indeed repaint it rather than just "fixing" it. It looks 10 times better than before but they still did it pretty shitty job. I don't even know how to describe it, it almost looks wavy but not really orange peel. Luckily, The bubble that was bothering me was fixed but there's another blemish that I can't really tell what they did. I put a tiny dent in the hood when I was unloading it which they fixed and that part looks pretty good. I'll try and get some photos later. They were really cool when I picked up, but I think maybe it's just not a quality shop. Or the guy working on my hood was not very skilled. They painted my co-workers and tire truck a few months ago, and it's the best paint job I've ever seen.

They tend to put the least skilled worker on smaller jobs or that skilled worker was over worked. I'm happy to hear they repainted it and it's 10x better than before. Happy to hear a decent outcome from your experience.

Thanks. I wish it was perfect but I'm hoping I can just leave it for now.
