I've already got a sales guy who's handling the new truck purchase and I'm waiting for him to call and say the new truck is ready for me to pick up. So I guess he'd also be the guy with whom I'd do the trade.

The only repair that's been needed was the TSB for the instrument panel when the trip and mpg values would reset. I had the panel replaced per the TSB and no problem since. Really the truck has been bullet proof. Yeah, there's the well documented tranny hunting but I've learned to live with it by using the S and ECT modes when climbing hills. I haven't had the tranny updates applied because I thought the mpgs would drop. Before I put on my OVRLND camper and E-tires I was averaging 22.7 mpg. With those mods I'm running about 19. The reasons for going new relate to my camper. The new drawings of the Taco show a spoiler coming from the top of the cab and I think it will contact the camper when the frame flexes on backroads. My camper sits on the bed rail and if if the new Taco has a different bed size I'm screwed. I like the AC configuration..Will the OR still be available with the AC configuration. Seems like DCSB is the way things are going. And then there's the new engines, not sure if I'm hip on 4cyls. So all that stuff led me to choose going with a known 2023 rather than wait and see. Taking the camper out of the equation I'd keep my 16 without question.

at about 1 year in i got the ECT mod 'on at start up' 28K miles now. thinking about trading for a 23 for the same reason as you, but they seem to have all the same problems too. depends what i can get for mine at trade and what would be the cash difference. most likely will just keep it.

I'm retired and you could put "If you wanted to be in front of me you should have left 3 minutes earlier" or "I'm retired, go around" stickers on my back bumper. So I've learned to live with the hunting. I haven't gotten over the cruise control problem that causes the tranny to drop to 3rd on the slightest incline. That sucks bigtime..

You don’t want to play hide the weenie. If you lie or mask how you’re paying it’ll just make things take way longer and possibly fuck the deal up.

instead I suggest offering, “how would you like me to pay for it”. If they get a kickback and it costs you $80 in interest and you get an extra $800 off why not.

If I were to go that route would I be able to pay it off a month later?

I got my 2017 Sr5 4x4 last November for 27 and it had 72xxx miles on it. It's a certified pre owned so they said they went through it with a fine tooth comb . Records showed turned rotors , new tires and the basic oil changes. And today's market I just built the same thing with everything that came on mine and it runs around 45. But I didn't have anything to trade in.
Might wanna try carvana or something like that to see how much you can get.

Carvana came back with $20,800. But here in Colorado, I'll only have to pay sales tax on the cash I fork over. My guess is I'll save $8xx if I do a trade in.

No pre-payment penalty so yes you can. If you plan on using this dealership for service make sure they’re okay with you paying off in x days. Some banks will do a chargeback and it will piss the dealer off big time.

Also on the sales tax you’re right. If you live in incorporated Steamboat with high tax your tax break could be upwards of $1,600.

I'm not in Steamboat so the tax savings would be about $800 ish.
