Hauling dirt bikes with full size spare

Looking for any recommendations/ solutions for mounting a 33” spare. I want to keep it out of the bed to save space and do not want to put under the truck.

My original plan was to go with a quality swing out hitch carrier (Wilco, Rigd etc.). But I am often carrying two dirt bikes which requires me to have my tail gate down while driving.

My second thought is to have a stationary hitch carrier that folds down to different angles. Which will allow space for the gate to be down some. Haven’t found anyone who has done this and looking for ideas.

Considered a roof rack, but for a solid roof rack on an access cab you need to drill since there are no factory mounting points. I actually had a Prinsu rack that I never installed and sold.

 

There are plenty of people who could build a variation of a dual spare/gas can holder. Have them build it to hold one spare in the center with one or two gas cans and the bike mounts outside of that. Most real offroad fabrication shops should be able to handle it.

 

The only thing I can think of is the Wilco Offroad Tire Gate but I don't know if your 33in. spare is going to give your dirt bike tires enough room to clear. The damn thing is expensive... you may want to take their design and see if a local can fab something similar that will clear your dirt toys' tires.

 

If you are serious you could go this route.

 

A 33” fits into the stock location under the bed with little work. Plenty of threads on here about that topic. One only has to look.

Get a double swing fabricated that doubles as a bed extender, haven’t seen one yet so you’d probably be the first. Spare tire on one side and gas tank on the other . Just gotta make sure it swings on both side evenly and maybe add a cross bar to hold it in place when driving with the tailgate down |__|
