    Hello everyone,

Need some assistance with my 2007 Tacoma 2.7L 4x4 manual transmission.

I hear a ticking/clicking noise when accelerating uphill above 2 RPMs or flat land above 40 mphs. Also having rear squeaking upon takeoffs. I have changed all U joints 3 years ago. I'm thinking it's the drive shafts.

I've read for 4X4 there are 2 drive shafts front and rear?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re the "ticking/clicking" noise: Does it sound like it's coming from a certain area on the vehicle? Can you describe the sound? Troubleshooting noises over the internet is already difficult, the more details/descriptiveness the better.

Re the rear squeaking: You mentioned you replaced the U joints but do you grease them regularly (or do you have the ones that are sealed/non-greasable)? Does the squeaking sound match the speed of the truck, i.e. something that is rotating, or is it some other noise? What leaf springs and suspension are you running? Could be sqeaky bushings from axle wrap, could be U joints, or a number of other things. More details please.

Yes, for a 4x4 truck there are two driveshafts. Front driveshaft goes from transfer case to front diff and has 2 u joints, rear driveshaft goes from transfer case to rear axle with a carrier bearing in the middle and has 3 u joints. If they have zerk fittings they need grease regularly! If you don't grease them they will sound like a herd of mice running on a hamster wheel...that is until the needle bearings turn to dust and then it goes boom (which you don't want).
