Audio system upgrade

Ok, so just did my first audio upgrade order in about 10 years. Went with this setup. Any tips or tricks I need to bolo for ? I used to amateur install but it’s been a minute. The attachment isn’t all inclusive just an idea of what I’ve got. I am planning to add a self powered sub later on. Appreciate you!

 

Look into sound deadening. I eventually added a dedicated tweeter. What HU do you have? Does it have an equalizer?

 

In my experience sound deadening your doors and possibly rear cab (if your sub is mounted in/around there) is the most beneficial thing you can do regarding the improving of sound quality, anything outside of that is icing on the cake.
There are plenty of step by step YouTube videos for sound deadening Tacomas, to include all generations, cab size and trim levels.

 

What recommendations do you propose for sound deadening? I’ve heard Amazon makes a decent in house brand. I’ll look up the videos too. Thank you. I have the factory non jbl headunit. I like the factory look so going to see how this setup sounds and go from there

 

Where did you tap into for the tweeter and where did you mount it?

Plenty of threads on this and is a preferred tweeter upgrade for many third gen owners because of its ease of installation and quality of sound.
I have them in my second gen, so can vouch for their quality from personal experience.

 

Noico is a popular brand among TW members.
It’s what I used. I think I used close to 15 sq ft but I did 4 doors, inside the doors (within speaker hole to include as much surface area as I could reach), outside of the doors and the rear cab as well.

Between that amp and the kicker CS, your highs are going to be HARSH. Those titanium tweeters are going to be brutal with 100w RMS driving them

you also picked the KS 2.75” and they won’t match up with the CS if you stick with those

 

Is their a way I can adjust the Pioneer 4 channel amp to compensate? Or do you have a different speaker setup recommended? So many options these days I tried to make an informed decision. I only didn’t do the Subaru tweeters so I could stay with one brand of speakers, read something about ohms being different? Sorry last time I hooked one up was a Pioneer 4x65w to 6.5 speakers lol

No, you can’t adequately adjust for coaxial door speakers wired parallel to wide band mid/high on a single amplifier channel. You need to select a component speaker setup for your front for best results.

 

So with this “9 wire speaker wire” from Crutchfield, my plan was to use 4 wires to go from the speaker side of the output harness from the amp, and use 4 more to bring the signal from the amp back to the speakers, essentially interrupting the speaker output side, so I don’t have to run new wiring throughout the whole truck. Does that make sense?

 

Yes that’s normal and people do it all the time.

 

you'd need to run 2 of those 9-wire runs. don't forget that every speaker needs a positive and negative wire. so a 9-wire cable is really only four and a half pairs.

to maintain front/rear fade, and left/right channels, you need 2 of those 9-wire cables

Having the

$48 47KSC2704 2.75" Mid-Range Speakers, 4ohm with Brackets for Select GM/Chrysler/Subaru/Jeep and Toyota Included

47KSC2704 (which is more midrange speaker than high/tweeter) in the dash and the CS 6x9 3-way speaker at the door is an odd mix. I have a feeling that the KS midrange speaker will over power the tweeters on the CS 6x9 speakers due to it's location.

Ideally that KS midrange speaker should be close to a dedicated tweeter and is meant to make a 3 way setup. Few people have done a true 3 way setups on 3rd gen tacos. Doable but requires some work. But anyway, if you're looking for more midrange sound then you're better off getting the

$270 Kicker 48KSS269 KSS690 6x9 and 2.75" 2-Way Component System, 4ohm

Kicker 48KSS269 component setup to be honest.

If you want clearer highs without it being to harsh any setup with silk tweeters would be a good option such as the Kicker 47KSS6904.

what are you hoping to accomplish with this over a standard LOC?

i mean, the lc7i isn't a bad component, but does it serve a useful purpose for you?

also, fyi: it's available via audiocontrol for the same $215 price. buying directly from audiocontrol is going to better support the brand, and offer post-purchase support that Amazon can't always offer.

 

I purchased it there because the remote came with it , with Crutchfield it was going to be another $45 for it alone. I got this in case I need the “bass adjusting settings for future settings. And to be honest trying to feel things out as I go.

 

It seems when I solve one ☝️ problem ten more pop up. I’m about ready to get everything installed and see how it goes! We did decide we are just going to run new wire so we can splice into the factory wiring instead of interrupting it and creating a huge mess behind the headset.
