Hey all...this is my first post and I'm hoping you guys can help me out. I have a cue ball for a shifter knob with my military units insignia on the top but the gap between the bottom of the knob and the top of the boot is driving me crazy! Any thoughts of what to use to bridge the gap and make it look like its supposed to be there? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I attached a pic so you can see what I'm talking about. Thanks again! shifter.jpg

You could simply get a nylock nut thread it down on the shaft. Then place that plastic clip that holds the boot so it sit on top of It. Then thread the shifter back on and clip the boot up.

Piece of tubing around the shaft that you can cut to length would work as well. Use the tubing to hold the boot up and the boot will hide the tubing.

Anodized red sleeve to hide it would look good imo.

red anodized sleeve would be great! I tried a piece of hose...did not like the look of it. Aluminum sleeve would work.

I did try and pull it up, but it was pretty tight. Might be my only option if everything else fails to look decent.

There isn’t enough boot to stretch all the way to the threads while retaining the stock trim clip.
I went through this with a knob I really liked, but it also sat too high on the threads like yours does. Especially when in park there isn’t enough boot material to fill that space.
You could remove the chrome boot trim piece (that you have a black cap on), and it would give you a little more boot to work with. The boot is simply flipped inside out and zip tied on the underside of that piece, so you could do something similar with a rubber gromet and gain a little bit of length.
You could also get an aftermarket boot that may have more material, I’ve seen several sets (shifter and handbrake) on Etsy.

Without that cue sitting lower on the threads, like all the way at the bottom, the stock boot isn’t going to cover that gap.
You could use a grommet to hold the trim clip as high as it will go and use 1/2” heat shrink on the remaining exposed threads

Find a craftsman, since you’re all in with the cue ball, you need the tip.

Is it possible to just drill that knob out and run a tap deeper?
