thats whats called a copper spot! basically in that spot there is a higher concentration of copper which reacts with the environment causing the copper to show instead of gold

 

nice collection you got going on! i work in the world research department which mainly focuses on foreign coinage

I know next to nothing about coins, but back in the 90's I started purchasing the annual US mint proof sets directly from the US Mint (standard and silver) as well as the 1 oz American Eagle Silver Proof Coin and the 1oz Gold Coins. I've amassed quite the collection. Figured it may be worth something some day when I'm close to retirement in a few years.

Fuzzy on that. I believe it came from the middle east. Many years ago, I collected coins and a family friend gave this to me and I lost it for like 45+ years. Hid it somewhere where I would not lose it (as a kid), life continued. Cleaning out the basement of the house we built to maybe move and found it. It made it through two moves and nearly five decades. Ha!

My mom found this one, cleaning an old closet and gave it to me.

 

From my late father's collection He passed away years ago and I'm now just trying to figure out what I have. Brings back great memories
