Anyone have an idea what type of star drive the blower motor mounting screws for the late 80s and early 90s trucks? Seems like a fairly standard HVAC type screw with an external hex drive, flathead drive, and some sort of star drive that looks almost (but not quite) like torx?
    More curious than anything.

I tried Torx bits, a T20 is too loose and a T25 doesn't fit either because the "arms" of the star on the screw head are too long and narrow. Compare that the broader/ shorter arms of a Torx star. [IMG]

What the What? why would Toyota need a special tool for a screw that has 2 other methods of tightening

I'd just replace them with the right length/thread from the hardware store and some form of a traditional head.

I know, right? Who knows what was going on in the 80s, but from a little googling, it looks like they were using these screws in some Toyota sedans through the early 2000s.

(Also, $13 for 3 chewed up screws?!??!)

Yeah, that’s the plan. The other two are pretty beat up and corroded.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Those are not factory hardware .

Just find the correct size Hex head screw!

If you really want I have many parts vehicles of that generation.

    Need anything else??

Absolutely, I'm planning on replacing them with something from the hardware store. I was just curious.

Are you sure they aren't factory? I've seen the same screw on other heater parts (see https://www.ebay.com/itm/284313337310, https://www.ebay.com/p/655834500).

I'm looking for AC system parts, if you have any in good shape.

100% sure those are not factory .With a drive like your screws have.

If you saw then on used parts they have been replaced.

Screws yes they all use JIS screws never a drive like yours .

Any AC parts I have I sure would not trust after all these years .

New Aftermarket parts have come down in price Quality who knows .

Yeah it's tough. My truck came without A/C and that's not great in the summer. I don't really want to mess with an aftermarket A/C of questionable quality, so I've been looking for an intact OEM AC system on a parts truck.

I know I'll probably need to replace the compressor and the desiccant, but I'd rather have an OEM system.

Anyways, that's probably why I still don't have A/C after almost 20 years of owning the truck.

Looks universal, like a combination of Socket, Flat and Phillips.
Try a lager Phillips bit, like a #4 size?

The photo I posted initially is from a little bit of an angle, but there’s 60 degrees between each arm, not 90 degrees like on a Phillips/ JIS drive.
