I still have dish network, haven't cut the cord yet. With that said, yes I pay a dish bill, I can watch the race on whatever channel it is on. So, if they went to a streaming service, I guess I'd be done, there is no way in hell I'd pay another fee to watch the race, most are snooze fests, definitely not worth it to me. Make the racing like it was before the mid 2000's, I'd probably pay for streaming. Just my worthless half a cent.

Already too many streaming services out there in my opinion. Many of them aren't even successful. Disney+, for example, recorded a net loss of over $1B last year and they're one of the main ones. Peacock is struggling getting subscribers. Then there's all the others which pop up and expect a piece of the pie, such as Paramount+, HBO, Fox Nation, Tubi, Fubo, etc.

Not to mention there are lots of people who still don't get reliable phone service or high speed internet so their only option is over-the-air or satellite/cable. It's no coincidence that the best ratings come when they broadcast on the main channels. A subscriber service is likely going to hurt ratings even more than broadcasting on secondary channels such as FS1 or USA.

as much as I want this, it would be detrimental to team’s securing enough sponsorship. Subscriber numbers would be significantly lower than whatever formulas they use to pitch visibility for sponsors to consumers. I’ve pitched sponsorship packages for a handful of truck & Xfinity teams and they rely on squirrelly data metrics. This way they can fluff the numbers and muddy what’s called “True Reach.” There is software out there that can pretty accurately factor true reach and most corporations are looking at that info regardless of what NASCAR or teams say. Having nothing but subscriptions is one defined metric that cannot be fluffed.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Are you comparing NASCAR to some outlier local and regional sports conglomerate? You guys have whatever opinion you want but apps through devises like Roku are the future of TV. Hell, it’s not even the future. It’s the now. Networks are flocking to new platforms because the way the consumer wants to view TV is changing. In 10 years we won’t even have commercials because the consumer won’t put up with it.
I am not saying NASCAR should not have some sort of TV deal, but I think it would be wise to offer some app that included a lot more content and better coverage. In tandem with whatever TV deal they have. You guys might not like it but that’s the future. NASCAR only generates 700 million a year or less. It’s not the billions the NFL makes. In the right format, that is not all that hard to do.

The best part about Josh getting suspended is they promoted and have a deal for two tickets for $92 at this weekends race. He was on DBC this week. Talk about screwing that marketing plan up!

I do not disagree however, NASCAR will not have sponsors like we know them now for all that much longer. Most of the deals the teams have now are legacy stuff and as those people retire and marketing evolves with social media and the ever changing landscape of the consumer. Logos on cars are going to go away. Not all that far in the future.

No, what I'm talking about is having something that's basically exclusive to streaming services. Bally Sports, for example, is still available on select providers, but your option without that is their streaming service which is $20 per month. You get more than you'd likely get from a NASCAR streaming service, and yet they've filed for bankruptcy because they have not generated the income necessary to sustain their business. Not enough people have subscribed and they've lost lots of viewership by taking their programs away from most TV Providers.

That being said, as per your second comment, I wouldn't necessarily mind if they had one that was supplemental to the TV. But I think you'll find it will likely fall into the oversaturation of streaming services that are already out there.

Their best bet to make it sustainable is likely get on board with one that is more mainstream. However, they've already been trying to get interest drummed up in the streaming services but they seem to be finding the interest just isn't there. The last two years NBC has been pushing their agenda for Peacock. They even put the NASCAR playoff drama series on there exclusively before releasing it after not getting the desired subscriber push from it or NASCAR. Peacock has also struggled to get subscribers in general.

Basically, what it comes down to is streaming services are expensive to run and they still need to make money. There are way too many streaming services out there to begin with and everyone wants part of the pie. When mainstream services like Disney+ are still reporting massive losses, it doesn't give me hope for others, which also gives me even less hope that they'll offer me anything to justify my purchase of yet another streaming service.

That's my 2¢. It may be the "future" or the "now," but I think it's not much more than 3D movies were during the 2000's push. They were cool at first but before too long, many will go by the wayside as they can't keep up because people don't want to subscribe separately for everything in their lives that they want to watch.

    Sorry for the rant.

You are right. I was not factoring the operating costs of production and the app itself. I think it is a lot more likely that networks will continue to buy the rights but push the sport to platforms such as Peacock to try and boost the value of the streaming service of the network. But I think it still needs to be a tandem type of deal much like they do now. I wish they just could get away from the hard network timeline but that is what it is now I guess. Not sure why we all care. Most of the races a boring for the most part now anyway. I normally fall asleep and wake up during the burnout LOL...
