Airing down will definitely give you smoother ride. Just buy a small compressor and leave yourself time to fill.

oh and go have fun! Sounds like a nice scenic route for sure.

I bought a small Viair compressor on Amazon and stauns tire deflator. Didn’t want to cheap out on those. Perfect little kit for now that fits behind the back seat compartment on drivers side. The deflators came pre set at 18, every half a turn clockwise is +3 psi. Gave them half a turn and set them at 21. I admit, they are extremely accurate. Confirmed with a digital and manual gauge.

How do you guys ride with such low air pressure. My tires are 35 psi and when I drive around 20 miles the low pressure warning light comes on. It will only reset after a day or so sitting. Why must I loose my digital screen when my tires are low. I have to rely on my regular speedometer. If it was not for that I would not have to worry about low air in my tires. They are not low in air…..

I am very annoyed at this truck account of this and I am going to sell it this year. I have it since 2019 and have 8,000 mikes on it. Probably sell it on line to the highest price. I know my dealer would not match what they are offering me…

From the description of the road, you shouldn't need to air down. I wouldn't worry about losing a bead, I would be more concerned about destroying your tires by running low air pressure. low pressure builds a lot of heat in the sidewalls from flexing and you ruin your tires from the inside. Unfortunately, you can't see this damage. A sidewall blowout is a pretty nasty experience. I wouldn't sacrifice comfort for the risk. Here is a good video of what happens. Of course this is the extreme, but should make you realize that you only air down when the conditions dictate the need.

    Pic heavy reply.

I entered this park at 32 psi, and I left this park riding at 19 psi. The trails I was on were not demanding at all, (it went from graded gravel to rocky singletrack, and of the two, the gravel was worse), but the difference in comfort was night and day:

Looks lame, right? Its a deceiving washboard that will rattle your teeth no matter what speed you attempt it. Lots of shit broke free on the way in.

Fortunately I found all of it on the way back out. :anonymous::anonymous::anonymous: (PSA, this is why the grumpy fucks say not to store your shackles on the bumper.) And when I ran 19-20 psi on the second day, the same bone-rattling roads were smoother. A bit. They were still rattly, just not bone-rattly. It made a humongous difference.

So for comfort purposes, yes, air down to 20. It does feel better. And then find a nice coffee stand to air back up. :cookiemonster:

Here is a nice video of where we are going, nice and slow then turning around and back up. My wife had a spinal fusion with rods and pins about 3 months ago. Just want her first trip to be as smooth as possible. I dont plan on going over 20 mph.

That also looks like the same Viair compressor I bought! Tested it out yesterday along with the deflators to get them set for the weekend. Worked like a charm!

Honestly, if you’re wanting it to be as comfortable as possible for your wife, absolutely air down. Ive always done it off road, and the comfort increase is absolutely noticeable. Only concerns I had was when I had some weight in the truck....how low is too low? Just returned from Mojave Road, roughly 350ish extra pounds in the bed, and left the tires at 18psi the whole time.

Jeez man...From the video it looks like a fire road or like crushed gravel - with some crew maintaining it - so it's probably not bad, especially at like 20 psi. Be prepared to go A LOT slower than you think though (and pull over for people coming up behind you out of courtesy)...things get rough, even on roads like that.

That is not a road you need to air down. There are paved roads in the northeast that are not as smooth.

Lol I was on a washboard so bad that I went around a curve at 20 mph and did a out of control 180 on dry washboard. 20 mph was the perfect speed to only hit the tops but it also let me lose control.

I had a GF once (Note:had) who complained that my Taco rode too rough. I told her 'Darlin' .... It's a 4x4 truck that was designed to off-road up the sides of mountains... So no, it not gonna ride like the big squishy Cadillac you drive...'
Good thing I found that out before the relationship got any deeper.
