Traded my Scott Scale for a FS, 2022 Giant Trance 1 29er. (not my bike below, mine hasn't arrived yet)

    2017 Scott Scale 965 (Paid $799 in 2017, was given $800 on trade-in)
    2022 Giant Trance 1 29 ($2600 - 800 trade in, paid $1800)

I think I did pretty good.

If you have 180 and are going to 203 you can buy direct from Hayes.

Maybe Kitsbow should rebrand and become a more open brand that still makes cycling apparel..
I'm not a fan of the name, it sounds weird to me anyways.

Some people look at it as selling out, but a more broad name like skateboards with "supreme"
It's not selling out if it keeps families fed and people aren't becoming unemployed.

That’s a real shame. I always forget about there stuff. Tbh their style wasn’t really my thing but I still thought it was cool stuff

I think origin U.S.A. speaks to U.S.A. made stuff and how successful that model can be (assuming they are successful, which it seems like they are). maybe some of their employees can go to origin

I'm a big domestic manufacturing fan. Shame that Kitsbow couldn't keep it going but I'm optimistic it will reincarnate in some form down the line - its reputation is too good. I felt like they had a ton of momentum considering they singlehandedly put Old Fort on the map. I'll be there in April and looking forward to meeting some of those folks involved

Yeah, that is a shame. Doing some kitchen math based on number of employees and garments produced, their margin would need to be at least $100 per garment to pay everyone a living wage. That's nowhere near sustainable. I'd gladly pay a premium for a USA-made high-quality garment, but not likely that much of a premium.

I’ve done a few of these races and loved it. I had the endurance base from road cycling, but didn’t know what to expect being on an MTB for 10-12 hours. Just pace yourself and set your expectations to what you want. Either fun with some personal goals or just fun to experience.

I will say - plan out your eating and hydration schedule. First year I cramped so bad I had to get off the bike for an hour and relax as well as walk in spots later in the day. I was much better at hydrating this past year and had no cramps. I also only took short breaks in between laps to eat because I felt so much better.

So - that’s my advice to you. Eating wins races! Or at least lets you enjoy them more!

As for the company that hosts that ride - Zia Rides - they are great! I ride in the ABQ Dirt Fiesta south of where this race is. They put on a fun atmosphere, people are friendly and very supportive.

You should do it, just go and have fun!

12 hours is a long time, probably would start with the 6 hour option, lol. I used to do a 12-hour relay in central Missouri called Burnin' at the Bluff (12.5 mile loop around Council Bluff lake). The campground would be reserved for the race, and it was a blast. Teams of 3, or you could go solo. We just went for the fun and atmosphere. They'd have stuff for kids to do, a DJ, Shimano and SRAM reps on site, sometimes a food truck. It was a LeMans start where everyone would leave their bike in a field and start on foot down the hill outside of the view of the field. They would move the bikes around randomly in the field, so when you got to the top of the hill after running up the asphalt in bike shoes you had to search for your bike. This helped space people out a bit at the start, but there was still a traffic jam for the slower starters (like me).

    Do eet!

Sounds like a long day in the saddle at 12 hrs but totally doable depending on your fitness level. I wouldn’t worry about speed as much as endurance in if I were going for something like that, finishing is a big accomplishment.

I tried out Bentonville for the first time as I was passing through. Did a quick tour of Coler and then Slaughter Pen. Can’t wait to go back for a full trip with friends.

It’s down near Charlottesville at the blue ridge school. It looks like it’s some standard Virginia real mountain biking haha

Not sure if anybody's spouse/partner rides but the Roam MTB Fest is happening again in Knoxville. Only 3 destinations host every year; Knoxville, Fruita, and Sedona. It's a big deal for women riders

    Good on you!!!

Might be on an XC course but 6/12hr events are not XC races. That’s an endurance event my friend. Eat, eat, eat, and eat some more. You’ve still got a little time to get some base built in and get saddle “conditioned”.

Find a friend and do the team duo so you have someone to commiserate with

Aw man, bringing back memories. I’ve done burnin. Great trails and event. Was so tired last time didn’t even get out of my tent for the awards/after party. Damn, that was like 12/13 years ago. Man I’m old.

EDIT: just checked. 2011, old status confirmed.
