I bought a 2010 tacoma a while ago and Im hoping for some help with an issue I got.

The truck came with an aftermarket head unit that I didnt like so I found a used OEM head unit to replace it. Well after hooking it up, it seems that someone cut one of the harnesses off the truck that plugged into the original oem head unit for some reason....

The connector they cut was the 20 pin connector that runs to the aux plug and steering wheels controls, based on my research.

I have scoured the web and this website and I cant find the specific 20 pin connector/harness for sale. Even local classifieds and salvage yards are out. Ive found many many variations of this harness/connector but none that are this exact one. If anyone has any leads or ideas how to find this connector/harness, i'd easily splice the wires back together and get full function back. Willing to pay reasonable cost for the harness if someone has a salvage truck for parts.

    See pics for additional info:

This is the connector on the back of the head unit (looking for the female connector that plugs into here):

Nope its different. The connector has different pin layout and not the same indents on the connector. Ive seen this one alot.

There's only 1 20 pin harness on the Radios and it's for the jbl amp.

So I've been digging around for this pigtail thinking Metra would have a reverse gender harness, they usually do... but fuck man this one's nasty. I'm staring right at my 2009 stereo with the same connection and all I was able to find was the pinout. Integration harness options don't need that connector so looking for a DSP or add amplifier harness doesn't get you the right gender either.

I'm not saying I've given up but your only real option might be to chop one out of a junk yard Tacoma unless you want to dig through the Chinese AF websites and buy one that might fit in some kind of bulk and wait three months for it to ship on over. It is also possible to get one directly from Toyota but it's probably not available or you'll spend an hour at the parts desk only to have the guy tell you either no way or the whole spinal cord is $648.97.

I'd continue shopping at the junk yard if I were you.

I found a solution from my local LKQ yard. They had a 2005 tacoma but when I got there, it was stripped down to bare metal. It was hilarious and disturbing how quickly it was picked apart. It was only there a few weeks. I had almost given up but decided to try find another random toyota in the yard. I found a 2008 camry with interior still intact so I removed the head unit and luckily found the exact connector I was looking for. Then on the way out I found a 2009 4runner and got another connector as a spare!

I repinned the missing pins in the connector I needed based on wiring schematics I found for oem tacoma radio. Then I soldered the cut harness in my truck to my new connector and everything worked out! Now all the functions work as intended. Aux, steering wheel buttons, and backlights on radio all good now. Im relieved and frankly surprised it all worked out considering I was guessing on a few of the wires in the back of my head unit harness.
