Well hello to all. So a few weeks ago had a Leer 100XR installed on my 22 Tacoma SR double cab 4x4, at my local dealer. They took over 5 hours to install it. First good rain and it leaks in the corners and a few other spots. I made another appointment for today at 10 am arrived and said I would have to wait a minimum of 2 hours. So I left. I am thinking with some ESI double and triple cap seal rolls and do a better job of lining it up myself. It was not installed evenly and I am sure they just used foam tape. But at least they used putty in the 2 areas on the front of the bed. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks

If you paid an install fee, I’d want them to either do it right, or remove the fee and I would do it myself. If you are going to remove and redo, make sure you silicone under the plastic bed rails. Then use a quality rubber bulb seal on top of the bedrails instead of the junk foam strip. They are never completely water proof, (holes in the bed etc) but you shouldn’t have pooling etc. coming in through the sides.

Are you sure that it's coming in around the seals and not the windows? There have been some quality control issues from the factory of poor window installations. I had to take mine back to the dealer to have the windows pulled and resealed.

Great not what I wanted to hear. Mine has mostly been in the corners. Could be the windows, carpet was wet in the rear corner's as well.

Could put it in a dark garage with a light inside to see if you can see light from the outside or use the hose to try to determine if it’s the windows or not. The bedrails will absolutely leak both under and through the ribbed channel that leads into bed if the seal isn’t compressed enough to fill that space.

Somewhere in the archive cloud is a nice helpful video or tutorial on how to seal a tacoma bed before installing a canopy.

you'll have to remove the canopy along with the side and front bed caps. put a nice bad of caulk around all the holes (you'll see the holes after you remove the bed caps) as if you were making a gasket.

put a nice bead of caulk under the front bed rail cap and at each corner. be generous with the caulk. reset the canopy and secure it. some caulk should squeeze out on both the inside and outside of the front corners. you can neatly wipe away the excess. i used clear caulk, it goes on white but dries clear.

edit: when you have the canopy off, you might as well replace the foam gasket material that goes on the underside. lots of choices. i used 1/4" thick x 2" wide.

if done correctly that'll seal most of it. you should also seal the openings in the bed floor and around the tailgate. i used a foam to seal these areas.

The front corners of the bed have gaps. Have someone stand in the corner with a flashlight and view it from the inside.

I used butyl rope to seal mine. Topper place put foam tape on the top rail.

My driver side window was leaking so I took it back and they pulled the window, removed leers butyl tape and added a rubber/ gasket type.

They don't seal worth a damn, I chased Leaks on my 100xl for the year and a half then sold it off as having a shell was more of a hindrance than it was worth. The closest I came to sealing it up involved removing the bed caps siliconing them down, expanding foam in the front gaps. Even then it still found ways in by the tailgate. Also if you run any rough road look forward to your bed sides getting beat up.

Mine is about 99% dry with only sealing the front gaps.

Do you mean that the edge of the shell will make contact with the exterior of the bed sides? I never thought about that. I wonder of bed stiffeners help
