So I’ve been looking for an affordable truck, and came across this. The main concern for me is the rust shown in the undercarriage. I’m gonna find an auto shop to take a look at it before/if I buy, but would y’all say it’s at least worth going to look at? The mileage is a bit high, but I’m not concerned about being able to maintain it and do some troubleshooting as my dad and myself can probably do all of that at home.

The frame is out of warranty, I'd stay away from it. Chances are it's rusted out. I wouldn't buy another Tacoma from the rust belt that's out of the extended warranty for the frame. If you do, try to find one that has had the frame replaced or you're going to get screwed.

I’m t does not look that bad, would get it checked out. You want to pay attention to the from of the frame near the cats, this is the worry spot for f you will, make sure both sides are solid. Milage is not bad at allot only 1/3 of the way through life if taken care of.
    Ask for maintenance records

The frame has actually been replaced on this truck. The P/N ID sticker on the side is the giveaway that it's a replacement frame. Also, unlike the P/Ns for the original factory frames, the replacement frames all have sub-assembly P/Ns (i.e. 04001-XXXXX, 04006-XXXXX, 04008-XXXXX, etc.) which you can see in the pic(s). Not saying the frame is terrible by any means, but what's sad is this truck was given a second chance at life and it appears like the PO(s) so far have done nothing to try and prevent this one from following the same & slow rust cancer death as the previous frame. Besides the frame, there are obviously other parts of this truck that could use some TLC/overhaul/replacement as well.

Hitch looks bad but frame pics look like surface rust so a wire brush and Rustoleom spray cans should make her look pretty.
Have the dealer run the VIN and that will tell you about the frame replacement.
Crawl under and look under the front doors inside frame for the lower part flacking apart and pic 23 look on front side of cab mount for rust thru where it meets the main frame. Mine had a hole so I drilled a larger clean one and applied heavy paint - drains better now too and can flush crap out easily. If areas in doubt poke them with a small screwdriver and see if they cave or are surface only.

Hard no. Been in an accident. Paint looks shot and the wheels are spray painted. Rusty. Truck clearly wasn't cared for. 160k is not a lot of miles for a Tacoma but it can be if the truck was poorly maintained.

    All stock, baby!
The frame looks fine in the pictures. Given the rust on the spare and the tow hitch, agreed that it must’ve been replaced. The ad says it has an immaculate service history. Find out what that means; you can see the shocks are original, so it doesn’t mean that the previous owners didn’t leave plenty for you to need to replace. The price is certainly low enough to leave you with room to spend a few thousand on such things, though.

This could be a great find. Check it out. Do not be afraid to just walk away, though! There will be others.
