If you just Google "Tech Stream" and the questions you have, you will find a days worth of reading. I don't think it works with Linux.

Yeah, but that's also the problem... finding a thread with comprehensive information. Googling that or searching here on TW would be like an Easter egg hunt.... in a jungle!

:help: sometimes the answers just don't fall into your lap. (Google searches "all" Toyota forums and many models share similar issues and solutions.) If it was important enough to me, I'd go for a walk in the jungle.

I'm happy with the Autel system . . . I have 2 Toyotas at or past the 10 year old mark and they were both popping TPMS lights. Got the TS401 to read and program new Autel MX sensors with the original ID that is loaded in the ECU. Of course, I used that as an excuse to buy the HF tire changer and balancer, too.

FWIW, I did have some mixed success replacing the batteries in the original sensors. I did that before getting the TS401, and it seemed the bootleg Techstream was too involved and risky. The sensors are sealed with silicone under the plastic back cover and use a 2450 watch battery ($3.95 at Lowes). It's painstaking work to get the battery out, clean up the silicone, and solder the replacement in. I have at least 3 sensors still working over a year with replacement batteries.

LOL... I know that for sure. The only answer I really need is does this non-standard techstream do the ABS cycling and bleeding? The rest I can figure out. That is the only thing that might make it worthwhile to go this route... certainly not for TPMS that only needs addressed once every 10 years or so.

I replaced a broken sensor with the standard Denso from Amazon, programming the new ID was a piece of cake with my TPMS tool...

But there's now a quark with the TPMS. The light won't automaticly reset itself after airing back up like it used to. Instead,
I have to manually reset using the scan tool which is pretty annoying..

The Snap-On scanner will read the TPMS codes, read ID's, perform a reset/clearing the TPMS light, but won't program or clone ID's..

Sorry to dig up an old thread. I just got a set of Denso 500-0103s (4 and a spare) on my new wheels for my 2006 4Runner and Discount Tire direct said they couldnt get the TPMS light (on solid, not flashing) to go off even though the said the sensors were all transmiting. I have an Autel TS501 and will see if I can fiddle with that, but can you give more detail on the Dense activation instructions found in the box? I didnt bother to look at the sensor prior to taking them to the shop.
