The 05-06 models have a higher rate of HG failure than subsequent models, and frame cracking also on driver-side motor mount area. Yeah, CC is annoying that way but mine doesn't nearly rev up that high. It will drop 2-3 mph before it starts accelerating, then goes over the set mph by about 2-3 mph.

I have 07; bought new in Nov 2006. 210k miles. She is parked outside facing east; thus, the paint on front and passenger side is fading into white from silver. She’ll get a new paint job this year.

No kidding. But later Tacomas are not exempt from head gaskets, frame rusting and motor mount cracking. Toyota should have fessed up on the 05 through 06 trucks. The frame rusting goes back even before the Second Gens to First Gen and earlier HiLux boxed frames. The Japanese and Toyota in particular seem challenged with learning how to prevent frame rusting. Even Ford, sort of, figured out how to prevent fender and bed side rust through but I do not recall Ford truck having frames that rusted out from underneath them so badly they were a danger to the public. When/if I purchase a new Tacoma it will get frame protection right away.

And Toyota dealerships, sales and service, all seem to be a bunch of clueless and stuck up d--ks if I may say that.

The afternoon before the gasket blew I had a momentary roughness on warm start. I was away from home 1500 miles on a SCUBA diving trip in the Keys. I went to my hotel and crashed and that morning checked the oil and it was a little high. It had never used oil so it was customary for me to rarely check the oil and I had my mechanic service the truck, rotate tires and change the oil for me before the trip so I thought he had just over serviced the oil. The oil looked clean and normal and about a half quart or less high. I should have known. Upon start up it idled rough for about a minute and then ran normally. I had cleared the Keys heading home and was in Miami when the CEL came on. I manage to get off and get the code read and I thought, okay a bad coil pack, all appeared normal and the truck was running normally. I got back on the freeway, 50 miles later, and in the worst possible place every light came on and by the time I could get to a safe place to pull off the engine was toast. I had it towed to the nearest Toyota dealer and $$$$ later I flew back down to retrieve the damn thing. The Tacoma had been babied it's entire life. Running better than ever now, it should with a low mileage engine and a new cat/manifold.

Bought my 07 TRD 4X4 DC new. Closing in on 240,000 trouble free miles. The alternator died at 170,000 but other than that just normal stuff like brakes, batteries, tires etc.

Recently got my dad's 05 and it's been great. Of course he only had 40,000 miles on it at the time. Only issues he had was the battery dying due to it not being driven much in the last couple of years.

All of your trucks are babies. I picked mine up in 08 after Toyota bought back my '99 with 282K on it for 13K. Last week I hit 405K, the frame was swapped out in around 2018, it still has the original clutch. The largest negative is that it has been leaking oil for quite a few years, but not bad enough to drip on the ground.
