i got my first guitar 8 years ago as a gift....it was a black washburn, so to me it was too bland, so i decided to sand everything down and re-paint it in the Eddie Van Halen Colors. Red, White, and Black.
So today, the guitar is beat up, worn, has some chips of paint, fading colors, and i want to clear coat it with like 60 coats of clear to seal all the memories ive had with the guitar, so my question is, if i do that many coats of clear on the guitar, how long will i have to wait to get down and wet sand it, to make everything even and shiny?

    neglect, mostly.
i've never done anything like that to my guitars. (is it a D10B? that was my first, still love it). . . what i've always been told is to treat the paint and finish on the guitar like it was a nice piece of furniture. that's why i just dust mine with old english polish every month or so. now what lots of people don't realize is that the actual majority of the sound doesn't come out of the hole, it's coming out of the wood (pluck a string and hold it right beside your head and tell me im lying) now with that being said just be conscious of how much your stuff your doing to the body with paint cause to much stuff like that on a guitar can make it be like it's trying to breath through a mask.
