Not happy with this though. I put it on ramps to take a looksie. You'd think Toyota would have learned many lessons about rust by now. Contacting dealer for remedy. I've had the truck two days and it has 190 miles on it. Haven't off-roaded........ There are many more spots under the truck....I just took pictures of two. If you're taking delivery, look carefully underneath. REPORT it to your dealer and go on the record.

Edit: You would absolutely expect to see rust already on exposed metal like the sides of rotors or exhaust flanges. But you damned sure wouldn't want to see them on frame welds or the frame itself.

Again....I LOVE THIS TRUCK! But I don't love this and Toyota needs to address it.

If you don’t believe this to be normal, head to a dealer and check out the trucks on the lot.

Ok, I believe you folks. I guess I've just never looked underneath one of my new vehicles like I did the Taco today. I put it up on front ramps because some dumbass dumped a shit ton of mud on our road and I didn't notice it until I was running through it. The underside was nicely undercoated with mud and I got out the hose with power nozzle to clean underneath.

So who has recommendations on what to spray on those so they don't get bigger? I'm not going to get a disc sander on my brand new truck frame.

    5300?!

Dude, your ticking time bomb of a minivan/Camry/car engine is almost toast. I’m actually surprised you made it this far.

Now that we’ve covered weld seams, there is no need to create a follow up post on uneven panel gaps…

Spoiler alert: they pretty much all have those too, and you’ll still love the truck regardless.

I've found my new home. A bunch of smartasses just like me. I didn't know they existed outside of the US Navy's Chief's mess, but here they are. :) Bring it! Ok, fluid film it is. WD40 has some new penetrating oil and sealant that is pretty highly rated too.

I agree that it’s normal but the welds on that truck look like either Monday morning drank too much tequila welds or Friday need to GTFOH welds. Wow.

You can also use POR 15. I did the entire frame on mine with it a week after I bought it. How do I know it works? We had a beach house in Corolla NC 50 yards from the beach. When it was built in 2001 we had an iron bench made to put by the flagpole and the memorial garden we built. Coated it in POR 15 in 2002. Was down there this past summer and went by to see the place. Same owners. Bench is still there no rust and hasn’t been touched. Just my 2 pesos.
